Race 1 (1:00pm) VIVA LAVILLA
Winner of a maiden hurdle, on debut at Lingfield (2m 3f, good to soft) back in November, before performing well in successive Grade 2 contests, including when fourth of seven in the Leamington Novices Chase at Warwick (2m 5f, soft), when 8.25 lengths adrift of the winner. Drop back to Class 4 puts him firmly in the box seat and a potential maiden win is very possible here.
Race 2 (1:30pm) UNCLE ALASTAIR
Strong performer for Nicky Richards, who has five wins and three places in eleven starts, with the wins coming prior to November 2018. He returned to action last March, after a twenty-eight month hiatus to place third at Ayr (2m 4f, soft), before reappearing in December at Carlisle (2m 4f, soft), missing out by half a length to Papa Tango Charly. Decent claims, with a little more to prove, due to the relative lack of runs, but on his best form, he should be in the mix.
Race 3 (2:05pm) FINDTHETIME
Placed twice in the opening two starts last Autumn and comes into this contest looking for a treble, having sealed a double at Catterick (2m 3f, soft) at the end of the year, when a length clear of Hungry Tiger on handicap debut. Rise of 5lbs and the higher grade offer a fair challenge, but on current form, a further improvement looks likely, especially with the in form, Brian Hughes onboard.
Race 4 (2:40pm) HASANKEY
Had just one victory in twenty-three starts, prior to taking the victory at Fontwell (2m 1f, heavy) on Boxing Day, demolishing the field by some 48 lengths. He then followed that up at Ayr (2m, heavy) a fortnight later, to beat Heartbreak Kid by 6.5 lengths. Fine form and Lewis Dobbs’ 10lbs claim look capable of adding another win for a hat-trick in this contest.
Race 5 (3:15pm) FIRAK
Maiden winner at the seventh time of asking, when taking the spoils at Chepstow (2m 3f, heavy) in a hurdle contest, thirteen months ago. After a disappointing seasonal return in December, he switched back to chasing, finishing third of four at Chepstow last time out, four weeks ago, behind two last time out winners. Continues in this sphere here and looks to have stronger claims, now down in grade.
Race 6 (3:50pm) ROGER RAREBIT
Four race maiden, who showed promise on debut, when third in a bumper at Hereford, fourteen months ago, but has not been able to build upon that, placing -077 since, including the latest, when seventh of twelve at Chepstow (2m, heavy) five weeks ago. Looks the type to improve on this handicap debut, but will need to show a little more to challenge for the spoils. Expect Tom Lacey’s runner to be battling for the places here.
