The bet365 Cambridgeshire (Heritage Handicap) is the centrepiece of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire Meeting on Saturday, with 28 runners set for the Rowley Mile at 3.40pm.
Run over 1m1f, the Class 2 handicap is open to horses aged three and older. The official going is currently Good, and the stalls have now been allocated. The winner’s prize is £103,080.
The established handicap performers
Thunder Run heads the weights after his recent victory and returns to the race in which Karl Burke’s stable supplied the 2025 winner, Boiling Point. Indalo was second in last year’s Cambridgeshire and has had another busy campaign, including a Sandown success in July. Hand Of God returns to handicap company after competing in stronger races during the summer.
Hard Endeavor, Alcarath and Spell Master arrive with recent placed efforts on their records. The current field no longer includes Beagle Bay or El Matador.
The three-year-old group
Eight three-year-olds remain in the field. Gavriel has had only four starts and comes here after winning a 1m2f Ascot handicap earlier this month. John and Thady Gosden also run Harmonics.
Bourbon Blues won a Class 2 handicap at Doncaster on 10 September under Ryan Moore, while Wild Thoughts scored at Ayr on 17 September. Pathein, Crest Of Fire, St Anton and Zennor Storm complete the younger group.
What to watch on the Rowley Mile
The straight 1m1f course places the focus on the official ground, the stall positions and how the race develops across the track. Saturday’s field includes runners with recent winning form at a variety of distances, including Gavriel and Bourbon Blues at around 1m2f.
Stable representation remains a feature. The Gosdens field Gavriel and Harmonics; Andrew Balding has Spanish Voice; Ian Williams supplies Shafdar and Nizam; Jack Channon runs Urban Lion and Crest Of Fire. Jim Goldie has three runners: Altareq, Salam Dubawi and Dwindling Funds.
