County Hurdle Entries 2024: Bumper list of 74 horses entered for 2m Cheltenham handicap hurdle

One of the star attractions on Cheltenham Gold Cup day, the County Hurdle is also one of the most fiercely contested races of the entire four-day National Hunt extravaganza and the 2024 renewal on Friday 15th March is set to be another enthralling renewal with 74 horses being entered for the 2m contest.

With some top notch handicap hurdlers often seen competing in the race, and none more so than 2022 winner State Man, who turned into a real Grade 1 star, the County Hurdle not only has yet again attracted some proven, experienced two-mile handicappers, but it’s a race that has also attracted some progressive, young hurdlers that will have their sights set on Graded company later in their careers.

Nicky Henderson’s Iberico Lord was a stunning winner of the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury in early February and that Seven Barrows inmate could look for another notable handicap success and is one of the star attractions in the entry list and could be joined by stablemates Luccia and First Street, who have also been entered for the race.

A former winner of the Ebor Handicap at York on the Flat, the Willie Mullins-trained Absurde has been entered by the Closutton team and is a fascinating entry and is another figure sitting towards the head of the betting, alongside the likes of King Of Kingsfield and Zenta, who both have some smart form in the book.

Last year’s hero Faivoir has been entered by Dan Skelton as that contender bids for back-to-back wins in the race, while Pied Piper was runner-up in the race 12 months ago and is set for another crack at the event and is another that jumps off the page when looking at the County Hurdle entries.
