2.00 Curragh – Contrary To Law (1pt win – 9/2 generally)
Contrary To Law shaped well in two runs for Ray Cody last term, finishing in mid-division when 100-1 for a good-ground 7f Curragh maiden before his 14-1 fourth at Galway (7f, yielding) where he didn’t last home after racing keenly. The son of Night Of Thunder makes his debut for Johnny Murtagh today and the first-time hood is a sign of intent. The colt is bred to cope today’s heavy going, looks potentially well drawn (stall 13 of 17) towards the near side rail and the curt back to 6f looks a good idea. His new yard is 12 from 70 with stable switchers on turf (17.1% strike-rate, +£15.88 to a £1 level stake at SP).

5.05 Chepstow – Kalista Love (1pt win 4/1 generally)
Kalista Love (a non-runner at Uttoxeter yesterday) was asked to make up her ground too quickly to get on the heels of the leaders when third to House Of Habsburg in a 3m1.5f handicap chase at Warwick on her penultimate start and had nothing left at the business end, finishing just over nine lengths behind the winner. This was her first attempt beyond 2m5f and the return to that trip saw her win by seven lengths at Fakenham next time, clocking some impressive sectionals in the process. She steps out of mares-only company again here, but the smallish field will suit and she’s worth a bet to follow up.
