A round number of 20 fillies remain in contention for Newmarket’s second Classic of this weekend, the 1000 Guineas. All of the provisional protagonists remain in the race, with ante-post favourites Fallen Angel and Ylang Ylang continuing to vye for the position at the head of the market.
Karl Burke’s daughter of Too Darn Hot took over favouritism for the race about a few weeks out from the race, with punters latching onto her Group 1-winning form at the Curragh. Her success over 7f in the Moyglare Stud Stakes was the first British-trained success in the race since 2014 and the dashing grey will be a prominent figure in the contest if having trained on since two.
Ylang Ylang was the heroine of the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile, run over course and distance at the end of the previous season. She could be one for a longer trip later in the season, but her top trainer Aidan O’Brien will almost certainly ensure she is perfectly primed for the race. He has also confirmed Content and Brilliant for the race.
Dance Sequence is a Godolphin filly who is also popular amongst punters. She has already run this season, finishing second in the Nell Gwyn Stakes behind the supplemented Pretty Crystal, and looks certain to step forward for that. Stablemate Cinderella’s Dream, unbeaten after a stint in Dubai, is another to represent these top connections.
Another name of interest will surely be Ramatuelle, who could seek to snare the prize for France for Christopher Head. The nation, courtesy of Andre Fabre, won the race a decade ago with Miss France.
1000 Guineas Odds
There looks set to be a three-way battle to go off favourite for the 1000 Guineas, though Fallen Angel broadly heads the market as time counts down to the start. She is available at best odds of 7/2, with Ylang Ylang at 4/1, and Dance Sequence the other prospective favourites should they prove popular in the betting.
These three are clear in the market, with the likes of Ramatuelle and Andrew Balding’s See The Fire next in at 10/1, with Content the second O’Brien string at 12/1.
