16 of the 20 confirmations have been declared for the 2024 1000 Guineas, ensuring a sizeable field in the opening fillies’ Classic of the season. They include all three of the ante-post favourites for the race in Fallen Angel, Ylang Ylang and Dance Sequence.
The overall 1000 Guineas favourite at this stage is 7/2 shot Fallen Angel for Karl Burke. His filly won three of her four races as a juvenile, including a taking victory in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh in September. However, she will have to defy the longest absence in the field as a result, as she has been off the track for 238 days.
Ylang Ylang is next in among the 1000 Guineas favourites. She represents the powerful Ballydoyle operation, and with her trainer Aidan O’Brien having not declared either of her stablemates Brilliant or Content, the daughter of Frankel will be his only participant in the race. That may well suggest that there is a fair amount of confidence behind her 4/1 chances.
The Godolphin filly Dance Sequence is the only one among the top three to have raced already this season. She was narrowly beaten by Pretty Crystal in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes, a useful trial for this contest, and is trading at a best price of 5/1, with her conqueror not among the favourites at 14/1.
Both See The Fire and Ramatuelle could yet make late moves in the market. They are available at best odds of 9/1 and 10/1 respectively, but have been the subject of some support of late.
