Aidan O’Brien’s City Of Troy is the star attraction in the list of 14 entries for the 2024 QIPCO 2000 Guineas, which takes place at Newmarket on Saturday 4th May. The unbeaten juvenile is a red-hot favourite in the latest 2000 Guineas betting and he will look to claim Classic glory at Flat Headquarters this weekend and is the standout contender for the Ballydoyle team.
Last seen storming to a dominant three-and-a-half length victory in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket at the back end of last season, City Of Troy will return to the scene of his first Group 1 success and will be looking to hand O’Brien a record-breaking 11th win in the race. The talk of the Classic division, the Justify colt is going to be tough to beat, but there are some very smart colts set to take him on.
Richard Hannon’s Rosallion ended last season’s juvenile campaign with a fine one-length win in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp and that colt is well fancied to run a huge race, while the Hannon team could also unleash the experienced Haatem, who showed his class a few weeks ago when winning the Craven Stakes on his first start of the campaign.
Charlie Appleby saddled Coroebus to victory two years ago and the Godolphin handler is set to have the three-times Kempton winner Ancient Wisdom lining up for him, but the well fancied Notable Speech does not feature at the five-day entry stage.
Beaten by City Of Troy in the Dewhurst, Alyanaabi will be looking to reverse that form for Owen Burrows, while Karl Burke’s Night Raider has been imperious with two wins at Southwell, but this is a gargantuan step up in class here, but is another fascinating runner in what should be a thrilling renewal.
