15 horses have been declared for the 2025 edition of the July Cup, with the predominant focus falling upon two-time Group 1 winner Notable Speech, with last year’s 2000 Guineas hero set to run over a trip other than 1m for the first time in his career.
An exciting piece of work in the build-up is credited with this drop to 6f, while Spy Chief, runner-up in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot was the other Godolphin supplementation for the Gosdens earlier in the week. The duo join Symbol Of Honour in the race for the ownership.
Of those already among the entries, Flora Of Bermuda was the best of the Brits in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at the royal meeting, finishing third to Lazzat. She is a consistent performer and one of three in the race owned by Wathnan Racing, who also have Night Raider and Rogue Lightning among the current 16.
Inisherin, who was favourite for this race 12 months ago, and Believing are a pair of top level winners in the race among the older runners in the contest. Four-year-olds Jasour and No Half Measures are both Group race victors too, while the wily veterans in the contest could be Run To Freedom and Twilight Calls, both of whom are now aged seven.
Among the Classic generation joining Spy Chief and Symbol Of Honour are the Ballydoyle duo of Whistlejacket and Ides Of March. The former has been very well supported of late, having won the Group 2 July Stakes as a juvenile over course and distance last term. Big Mojo is the final three-year-old in the race, with the likeable son of Mohaather looking to bounce back to form for Mick Appleby.
