Munster National Runners 2025: 16 set to contest Grade 3 Limerick handicap

16 horses remain in contention for Sunday’s Munster National, the feature race of the weekend in Ireland at Limerick. The Grade 3 handicap follows the Kerry National last month at Listowel in the series of National handicap chases for the stayers.

Willie Mullins’ You Oughta Know fell that day at Listowel, but had been favourite for most of the build-up and remains one of the more intriguing staying chasers in these early-season handicaps. He is joined in the race by stablemate Arctic Fly, who was pulled up in the Kerry National, but not the winner that day, Spanish Harlem.

Other big name trainers are well represented too. Gordon Elliott has the progressive Boston Rover among his trio, with the six-year-old chasing a four-timer. His remaining duo are also second season chasers in the maiden Will Do, who was third in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, and Yeats Star.

Gavin Cromwell’s Yeah Man won the Grand National Trial at Haydock in 2024 and is back down the weights to contest this. The younger and more upwardly mobile Aspurofthemoment also has an entry for this year’s Gold Cup winning yard.

JP McManus could see his colours carried by three different runners. In Excelsis Deo is now with banks expert Enda Bolger after leaving Harry Fry, while the five-year-old mare Nara could be the youngest participant for Henry De Bromhead. Pride Of Place, also for Bolger, has scraped into the field at number 16.

Former Grade 2 winner French Dynamite has made a good start for his new trainer Eric McNamara recently, as did the former Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Weveallbeencaught. The field is made up by Emmet Mullins’ Sea Music, fifth in the Kerry National, and experienced handicappers Drumgill, Talk In The Park and Watch The Weather.
