David Probert extended his lead at the head of the all-weather jockeys’ championship to 17 with a double at Southwell on Tuesday and the first of his three chances back at the track on Thursday comes with NAADYAA, who makes her racecourse debut in the first division of this 7f novice stakes.
Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum’s filly is the 16th foal out of Nasmatt, a Listed-placed 2yo in the same silks back in 2000 and a close relation to the ill-fated champion 2yo Bint Allayl. Naadyaa’s siblings include a number of winners both in Britain and abroad, including the UAE Listed winner Emmrooz.
She is the first runner in 2022 for Lambourn-based Owen Burrows, and coincidently his first runner here at Southwell.
The yard knows how to ready one first time up and this daughter of Muhaarar certainly has one of the better pedigrees in the field, so the market should provide a good guide on what to expect here first time out.
Verdict: Naadyaa is a particularly interesting newcomer here for Owen Burrows, on what is his first runner both at the track and in 2022, but unless the market speaks very positively about her chances this should provide CRIOLLO with a good chance to supplement her recent Lingfield success. The first foal out of a Group 2 winner, William Haggas’s grey showed a good attitude to score last month and with the promise of more to come looks a tough horse to oppose in a race appearing to lack strength in depth.

EBTSAMA – (2:37pm, MansionBet Beaten By A Head Novice Stakes) . Back EBTSAMA (2:37pm Southwell) here and Get Money Back in Cash up to £40
James Tate sent out a winner at Newcastle on Monday and he books David Probert for the ride on EBTSAMA in the second division of the 7f novice stakes.
This 105,000 guineas yearling is out of the Group-placed Roseraie and a full sister to the Group-placed Dark Rose Angel.
She made a promising debut when fifth at Newmarket in June when less just 4l off the now 108-rated Zain Claudette.
Ebtsama replicated the 72 RPR she posted at Newmarket when a 6l runner-up at Kempton in August, with the winner that day, Fast Attack, a subsequent Group 3 winner.
Ebtsama has clearly had her issues since having not made the track after that August run, but that 2yo form looks a good bit stronger than anything achieved by these rivals and if she has strengthened up since last seen this provides her with a good opportunity to break her maiden tag.
Verdict: This looks a good opportunity for EBTSAMA, who is well-bred being related to Group-class operators and proved herself to be an above-average filly in her own right in two starts last season, not beaten far behind subsequent Group winners on both occasions. There appears nothing of those rivals’ class in this field, so if she arrives in similar heart back from a break this should go her way. Cloch Nua has course form and can pose the selection most problems, albeit is expected to come out a clear second best.

MAHARASHTRA – (4:57pm, ~Betyourway At Betway Handicap) . Back MAHARASHTRA here and Get Money Back in Cash up to £40
The last of David Probert’s three Thursday rides comes in Southwell’s concluding 1m4f handicap, where he takes the ride on MAHARASHTRA for trainer Michael Herrington.
This 6yo brought his form figures here at Southwell to 112 when runner-up over course and distance earlier this month. Maharashtra bumped into a subsequent winner that day, and the front two pulled 3l clear of the remainder, so a 2lb rise received does not look unwarranted.
The concern, however, is that Maharashtra is up in grade here and appears to face a better class of opponents.
Verdict: Maharashtra bumped into a subsequent winner last time and a 2lb looks workable, but he does need to find some improvement upped to this level. With that in mind CHASE THE DOLLAR gets the nod. A formerly smart handicapper for Mark Johnston, this 4yo got off the mark in fine style for current connections when running out an eased down 5 1/2l winner of a 1m6f handicap here eleven days ago. Dropping back 2f shouldn’t inconvenience on that evidence, and Chase The Dollar finds himself running 2lb well in under a penalty for the success, so it makes plenty of sense that connections are keen to get him back out quickly. Catbird Seat was an eye-catcher back on the all-weather last time and rates the main danger if building on that showing.
