GG tipster Andrew Mount reveals his list of eyecatchers from the past week’s racing. Check them out below, along with an excellent offer from William Hill of Bet £10 – Get £30 In Free Bets.
ARAMIS GREY (third, 6f handicap, Lingfield, Saturday, February 5)
They crawled in this 6f Class 4 handicap and the two who disputed the early running finished one-two, separated by a neck. ARAMIS GREY kept on well from off the steady pace to finish a further neck back in third and wasn’t helped by ducking down the inside rial to challenge. She can be supported next time.
CONFLATED (won, 3m Grade 1 chase, Leopardstown, Saturday, February 5)
I’m a bit annoyed for not backing 18-1 Irish Gold Cup winner CONFLATED last Saturday. Last season, I’d got it into my head that he needed a big field/strong pace scenario, as his first three wins had come in fields of 25, 13 and 12 runners. However, a switch to forcing tactics has worked wonders and it looks as though he simply needs a left-handed track. His chase record right-handed stands at 3242 (0-4) but he has figures of 131U11 (4-6) when going the other way round. He looks a strong contender for the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
DEISE ABA (second, 3m handicap chase, Sandown, Saturday, February 5)
DEISA ABA only went down by a head in second, taking his course record over fences to 1122 (2-4), with the other runner-up effort by a nose. He’ll be interesting in the bet365 Gold Cup back here in April.

FAROUT (fifth, Grade 1 novice hurdle, Leopardstown, Sunday, February 6)
FAROUT finished a long way behind Sir Gerhard but the 25-1 shot will be very interesting at next month’s Cheltenham festival, perhaps in the County Hurdle. He’s rated 137 and though far from certain to be given the same mark by the British handicapper, it’s the same mark that stablemate Saint Roi was allocated when comfortably landing the race last term. Since leaving France, Farout’s record in fields of 12 or more runners reads 11 (2-2), as compared to 52435 (0-5) in anything smaller.
FIZZY FEET (seventh, 6f Listed race, Lingfield, Saturday, February 5)
FIZZY FEET had a poor draw in stall 2 and never left the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail under Hollie Doyle. He was beaten by less than three lengths into a 25-1 seventh and will be interesting back in a handicap next time, ideally in a small field.
GRANGE WALK (second, 2m1f handicap chase, Leopardstown, Saturday, February 5)
GRANGE WALK chased home A Wave Of The Sea, who was winning at the DRF for the third year running, and might be able to go one better next time. He wasn’t much cop on the Flat (0-9) or over hurdles (1-9) but has chase figures of 41F1P2521F2 (3-11), including handicap figures of F1221F2 (2-7). The Grand Annual could prove ideal.
MACS DILEMMA (fifth, 7f apprentice handicap, Wolverhampton, Monday, February 7)
MACS DILEMMA had caught the eye from off the pace when a three-length sixth of ten over course and distance last month and did well to finish two lengths behind the winner in fifth place this time. He blew the start from his high draw and could never get into serious contention. Next time.

SAINT ROI (fourth, 2m Grade 1 hurdle, Leopardstown, Sunday, February 6)
SAINT ROI could never strike a meaningful blow behind Honeysuckle in the Grade 1 Chanelle Pharma Irish Champion Hurdle, finishing just over nine lengths back in fourth at 12-1. Best when given a big field/strong pace scenario, he hasn’t had conditions to suit since hacking up in last season’s County Hurdle and he’s no forlorn hope to reverse the form or at least get closer in the Champion Hurdle next month.
SOAR ABOVE (fourth, 1m handicap, Kempton, Sunday, February 6)
I took a chance and backed SOAR ABOVE at 25-1 on his return to his favourite venue, despite reservations about his stamina, and he didn’t quite see out the trip. He only lost out by a neck for third place and will be something to bet on when returned to 6f or 7f at this track.
SOLDIER’S MINUTE (fourth, 6f Listed race, Lingfield, Saturday, February 5)
SOLDIER’S MINUTE was another ‘swamp dweller’ in this 6f Listed race, doing well to keep on into fourth place at 14-1. He’s now rated 105 on the all-weather but is 10lb lower on turf and will be interesting at Doncaster’s opening meeting, having finished second by a head in the Ayr Silver Cup on his latest grass outing.
