GG tipster Andrew Mount reveals his list of eyecatchers from the past week’s racing. Check out these runners below, alongside bet365‘s new customer offer of Bet £10 Get £50 In Free Bets.
BLACKCURRENT (third, 5f handicap, Southwell, Sunday, April 3)
They went hard enough up front in the 5f 0-60 handicap, with the winner, runner-up and fourth all coming from well off the pace. Third-placed BLACKCURRENT fared best of the prominent racers and can be supported next time, ideally on Tapeta again.
CASARUAN (fifth, 1m2f handicap, Chelmsford, Thursday, March 31)
Mick Appleby’s CASARUAN did third best of those to come from off the pace (see Lake Sand and Merweb below) on a biased Chelmsford track and can be supported if returning here for the apprentice handicap on Thursday (4.00).

CUBAN BREEZE (second, 5f handicap, Chelmsford, Thursday, March 31)
The form of CUBAN BREEZE’s Wolverhampton win from Lilkian on March 18 was franked when that one went one better in the 4.45 at Lingfield last Thursday and the David Evans-trained filly was sent off as 3-1 joint-favourite to give it another boost at Chelmsford a few hours later. However, the horrendous kickback turned the track into a front-runners’ benefit and her patient style was at a huge disadvantage. She performed miracles to grab second behind all-the-way-winner Atiyah and will be something to bet on next time.
HICONIC (sixth, 2m handicap, Lingfield, Saturday, April 2)
HICONIC won four times over hurdles on left-handed tracks in the summer of 2020 before a Listed second in Wetherby’s Wensleydale Juvenile Hurdle. She only had one subsequent jumps outing, pulling up at Aintree in December 2020 and the market suggested she’d need her comeback run at Lingfield last Saturday, her first start for 483 days. Sent off at 12-1 from the early 11-2, she made the running in the early stages and kept on well once headed to finish less than three lengths behind the winner in sixth place. This will have blown away the cobwebs and she’ll be of interest when returned to hurdles.

LAKE SAND (third, 1m2f handicap, Chelmsford, Thursday, March 31)
On a track that was massively favouring early pace, LAKE SAND did well to finish just over five lengths back in third. He had more than a length to spare over his next patiently-ridden rival and can be supported next time.
LEN BRENNAN (sixth, 3m1.5f handicap chase, Plumpton, Sunday, April 3)
LEN BRENNAN is included as one to avoid rather than to side with next time. The 15-8 second favourite trailed home last of the six runners to take his career score to just to wins from 21 starts. The latest win came over course and distance when flattered by a pace collapse and the other at Sedgefield when 1-4 favourite.

MERWEB (fourth, 1m2f handicap, Chelmsford, Thursday, March 31)
MERWEB was sent off at 28-1 on his debut for Henry Oliver and out-ran his odds in fourth of 15. He fared second best of the closers (one place behind Lake Sand) and can be backed if taking up his engagement in the 8.30 at Wolverhampton on Saturday night.
SARVAN (won, 1m2f handicap, Lingfield, Saturday, April 2)
SARVAN followed up February’s course and distance win, scoring with more in hand than the three-quarters of a length winning margin suggested. The son of Lope De Vega now has all-weather form figures of 32611 (2-5), improving to 311 (2-3) for jockey Darragh Keenan, with the defeat by just half a length. He’s just one from 13 on turf but that success, in a Pontefract maiden, was the only time he encountered ground quicker than good.

WIGGLESWORTH (third, 3m1f handicap chase, Hereford, Sunday, April 3)
WIGGLESWORTH tends to jump out to his left and it was surprising to see him go off as 11-4 joint-favourite at this right-handed venue. He lost ground at his fences by jumping left throughout and had to settle for a modest third. Since fitted with blinkers, his record left-handed reads 141PU4U2 (2-8). He’s also likely to prove best when fresh.
WIN WIN POWER (fifth, 7f handicap, Chelmsford, Thursday, March 31)
The Frank Bishop-trained WIN WIN POWER kept on well into a 40-1 fifth of ten in the 7f Class 6 handicap, doing best of those ridden patiently. He could be underrated by the market in the 6.30 at Kempton on Wednesday night.
