GG tipster Andrew Mount reveals his list of eyecatchers from the past week’s action
Find out which runners he wants to keep onside below, alongside bet365‘s new customer offer of £50 in Free Bets when you deposit and bet £10.
CHARM OFFENSIVE (won, 2m4f handicap hurdle, Ayr, Tuesday, November 29th)
Nick Alexander’s CHARM OFFENSIVE stuck on gamely to deny Whistleinthedark by half a length in the Virgin Bet Handicap Hurdle and, in doing, so, took his course record over hurdles to 2221121 (3-7). He’s 0-5 away from Ayr and is one to be wary of if changing venues next time.
GEORGE RISDALE (second, 1m2f handicap, Lingfield, Tuesday, November 29th)
GEORGE RISDALE met trouble in the closing stages of the BetUK’S Acca Club £5 Free Bet Handicap (division one) and looked a very unlucky loser. He was half a length down at the line in a race not run to suit his patient running style and can go one better next time.

Andrew Mount’s Best Bets – Tuesday, 6th December
Top Tipster Andrew Mount has been in his usual excellent form and gives one selection for today’s racing at Southwell. Back his selection with Sky Bet‘s new customer offer of £30 in Free Bets when you place ANY bet. Posted: 8:47am December 6th (Odds correct at time of writing) 7.20 Southwell – So Smart (0.5pt…
Tue 06 Dec 2022IMPERIAL BEDE (third, 1m7.5f novices’ hurdle, Leicester, Thursday, December 1st)
IMPERIAL BEDE drifted from 12-1 out to 25-1 and caught the eye in finishing just over four lengths back in third. He fared best of the closers and Jonjo O’Neill jnr was far less animated on him than the riders on the winner, runner-up and fourth. He also raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail.
LALLYGAG (second, 2m novices’ hurdle, Exeter, Friday, December 2nd)
The ground was cut up on the inside rail giving those who raced wide an advantage. After Dan Skelton’s Grey Dawning won the 2m British Stallion Studs EBF “National Hunt” Novices Hurdle, jockey Harry Skelton, interviewed on RTV, said he stayed wide deliberately because he’d noticed the ground was quicker there after jogging round the track pre-racing. He obviously didn’t tell conditional jockey Freddie Gingell, who stayed in the ‘swamp’ throughout on the Paul Nicholls-trained second favourite LALLYGAG. He only went down by a length and a quarter in second place and this effort was worthy of an upgrade.
MISS AMELIA (non-runner, 1m7.5f handicap chase, Sandown, Friday, December 2nd)
MISS AMELIA was a non-runner with a self-certificate after I tipped her for the 1m7.5f handicap chase but is worth putting in your trackers for the next time she runs on a right-handed track. Her record that way round over fences, when given a trip of about two miles, reads 11211 (4-5), with the defeat by just half a length.
ONE FOR MEMMA (third, 3m handicap hurdle, Haydock, Wednesday, November 30th)
They went hard up front in the Jewson Tool Hire Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle won by Theme Tune and the winner was probably flattered, despite his seven-and-a-half-length margin of victory. ONE FOR MEMMA fared bets of the prominent racers in third and will be of interest next time.
PUTDECASHONTHEDASH (pulled up, 3m1f handicap chase, Wincanton, Thursday, December 1st)
PUTDECASHONTHEDASH probably shouldn’t be called an eyecatcher, as it was hard to see what was going on due to thick fog. He pulled up after racing keenly in the lead but this run – his first since March and first since undergoing wind surgery – would have been needed – and he might be one to side with in the New Year, as his three wins all came from late January to early March, one in each of the last three seasons.
RAMO (third, 1m7.5f novices’ handicap hurdle, Leicester, Thursday, December 1st)
The ground looked slower on the inside rail and 10-11 favourite RAMO can be forgiven his 19-length defeat after racing in the deep stuff. He shaped with promise on his return from a year off when fourth at Bangor last month on his debut for Venetia Williams and the market could overreact to this effort next time.
SIX O’HEARTS (seventh, 5f handicap, Wolverhampton, Monday, December 5th)
SIX O’HEARTS got no luck in running in the opener at Wolverhampton on Monday evening and had to settle for seventh place, just over three lengths behind the winner. Scott Dixon’s three-year-old is now a seven-race maiden but there are races to be won with him judged on this effort and last-month 14-1 third over the same course and distance.
TORRENT DES MOTTES (sixth, 2m handicap chase, Southwell, Tuesday, November 29th)
TORRENTS DES MOTTES, sent off at 66-1 for the 2m Vickers.Bet Independent Family Owned Bookmaker Handicap Chase, ran better than his 23-length sixth of seven suggests. He traded at odds of 7.2 in running (from a Betfair SP of 124.32) before weakening two out. His three wins have come at Huntingdon in March (2019, 2020 and 2021) and he’s worth bearing in mind when spring comes around.
