British Champions Day Group 1 Race Trends – Expert Analysis & Big Race Verdicts

Our trends expert has analysed the four Group 1 races producing trends for each which include a big race verdict. Check out their thoughts below, along with an excellent offer from William Hill which comes in the form of a Bet £10 – Get £40 promotion.

Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes (2:00pm Ascot, 6f)

Age: 10/10 were aged 6 or younger.

Form: 10/10 finished in the first 5 on their previous start.

Class: 9/10 were rated 112 or higher.

Stamina: 8/10 had raced over 7f or further at some point in their career.

Since upgraded to Group 1 status in 2015, 5/6 winners were gaining their first success at this level.

CHAMPIONS SPRINT VERDICT

The two that come out best on the trends are Kinross and ROHAAN. Slight preference is for the latter, who found things happening a little too quick dropped back to the minimum distance at the Curragh last month but finished with a fair rattle for fifth. Stepping back up to 6f looks certain to suit on that evidence, and his record at Ascot currently reads a perfect 2-2.

Qipco British Champions fillies & mares Stakes (2:35pm Ascot, 1m4f)

Age: 10/10 were aged 3 or 4.

Form: 10/10 had won at least one of their last three starts.

Class: 9/10 winners were rated 109 or higher.

Stamina: 7/10 had already won over 1m4f or further.

The last four winners all had their prep run in France.

FILLIES & MARES VERDICT

The standout trends pick is SNOWFALL, who was beaten less than 5l into sixth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe last time out. Horses who prepped in France have a good recent record in this contest and her official rating of 120 leaves her a good way clear of these rivals.

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (3:10pm Ascot, 1m)

Age: 10/10 were aged 3, 4 or 5.

Form: 10/10 finished in the first three last time out (seven won).

Class: 8/10 were rated 119 or higher.

RPR: 10/10 posted an RPR figure of 113 or higher on their last run.

There have been six 3yo winners in the last ten renewals, all of them contested a Guineas of some description (2000 Guineas x 4, 1000 Guineas x 1, French 2000 Guineas x 1).

QUEEN ELIZABETH II VERDICT

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the trends have this between Baaeed and PALACE PIER. The fact Baaeed didn’t contest a Guineas of some description is a negative on the trends – Palace Pier didn’t match this trend last year and was beaten at odds of 8/11. The now 4yo Palace Pier is backed to gain his revenge in 2021, with an interesting caveat that of the four older horses to win this in the last ten years, two had placed in a previous renewal, something Palace Pier did last year.

Qipco Champion Stakes (3:50pm Ascot, 1m2f)

Form: 9/10 finished in the first two last time out.

Class: 9/10 held an official rating of at least 120.

Ability: 6/10 had won at least two Group 1 races that calendar year.

Experience: 7/10 had run at least ten times previously.

CHAMPION STAKES VERDICT

MISHRIFF comes out best on the trends and can land this prize for the Gosdens. He has gained two Group 1 wins this year, the most recent of those coming in the Juddmonte International where he blitzed the field. Adayar should provide a sterner test this afternoon but coming into this on the back of a fourth in the Arc isn’t an ideal prep considering that nine of the last ten winners finished in the first two on their last start.
