Buick's Bunch - Top Rider Heads to Doncaster for a Quartet of Sunday Rides

In an attempt to solidify his already healthy lead in the Jockeys Championship, William Buick heads north to Doncaster on Sunday afternoon for a quartet of rides, and we’ve assessed the chances of all his mounts. MODERN DANCER – (2:12, Baytree Interiors Be Inspired Lakeside Village EBF Maiden Stakes)

William Buick’s first ride on Town Moor on Sunday comes in the 7f maiden, where he partners up with the Charlie Appleby-trained debutante MODERN DANCER.

This son of Kingman is impeccably bred being a half-brother to Group 1 winner Ultra.

The yard is operating at just shy of a 30% strike rate with their juveniles here at Doncaster in recent seasons and the horses in this that have already made the track do not appear to set an unattainable standard.

If the market vibes are positive for Modern Dancer he looks like one of the more likely winners of this event.

SIP AND SMILE – (2:47, Pride Of Pavers Lakeside Village Handicap)

William Buick and George Boughey have been a duo worth following when teaming up, with 18 of their 62 (29%) previous runners winning. They combine with SIP AND SMILE in Doncaster’s 1m 0-90 handicap.

This son of Acclamation got himself back in the winner’s enclosure when going in over 7f here last month, and he went close off 3lb higher at Sandown next time, where he stayed on well into third late on.

Although up another pound for that showing the return to Doncaster is expected to suit Sip And Smile and the addition of first-time cheekpieces could eke out some further improvement. If they can go a good pace here expect to see William Buick’s mount staying on better than most late on.

REAL DREAM – (3:22, Skopes Lakeside Village Maiden Stakes)

Sir Michael Stoute and owner Saeed Suhail are still riding the crest of a wave after the exploits of recent Derby victor Desert Crown and William Buick aims to get in on the action with the duo’s REAL DREAM in Doncaster’s 1m4f maiden.

This Lope De Vega colt cost 430,000 guineas as a yearling, being the first foal out of the Italian Group 1 winner Laganore.

Real Dream has been seen just twice so far, both runs coming this year. He followed an 18/1 Nottingham novice fourth when fifth at Lingfield last time out. Real Dream possibly expended a little too much energy early on last time trying to secure a prominent pitch, and ultimately paid for those early exertions late on.

Real Dream shouldn’t find it so difficult to race prominently upped in trip in what looks like a weaker race, and therefore it’s no great surprise to see him so short in the betting to break his maiden tag.

NOTEABLE – (4:32, Trespass Lakeside Village Handicap)

Hugo Palmer travels up from his Manor House Stables base to Doncaster on Sunday with just the sole runner in NOTEABLE, and he’s snapped up William Buick for the ride on this filly.

She is one of the least exposed runners in this 6f handicap having had just the three starts so far, all coming under the previous trainer Tom Dascombe.

Noteable did best when going down by a half-length at Chester in September, and although a beaten favourite at Haydock subsequently the soft ground was the excuse given for that showing.

Back on a better surface for seasonal/stable debut, off what looks a workable opening mark of 70, and on the back of wind surgery, there are plenty of factors in Noteable’s favour which would suggest a better showing can be expected here.
