Buick's Scottish Six - Top Jockey Heads To Hamilton On Tuesday

Buick's Scottish Six - Top Jockey Heads To Hamilton On Tuesday

Leading rider William Buick rode a treble on the card when he last visited Hamilton and has a strong book of rides on Tuesday afternoon with six intended mounts at the Scottish track. Check out our thoughts on each of the sextet below, alongside an exclusive promotion courtesy of bet365, which is offering £50 In Free Bets to new customers, when you sign-up and bet £10.

LUMACHO – (13:15, racingtv.com Maiden Stakes)

William Buick and George Boughey have been a combination to follow when teaming up together, with 18 of their 70 (25%) runners going on to score. The team combine once again on Tuesday afternoon, and the pair kick things off in the opening 6f maiden with LUMACHO

The daughter of Camacho was well supported in the market ahead of her debut at Brighton last month and whilst she ultimately crossed the line in eighth on that occasion, that doesn’t tell the full story of how the race unfolded. In fact, Lumacho showed plenty of pace after leaving the stalls and soon found herself in a prominent position in the five-furlong contest, however, any chance she had of playing a part in the finish soon vanished when she was badly hampered at the two-furlong marker by the eventual sixth, Candy Rain.

Connections will expect Lumacho to take a sizeable step forward following her debut run on Tuesday afternoon and although she faces a pair of useful-looking colts in the form of Catch The Paddy and Lord Sam’s Castle, she should hold every chance of getting off the mark at the second attempt.

FRISKY – (14:15, Hamilton Park Supporting Racing Staff Week Novice Stakes

Simon Pearce travels all the way up to Hamilton from his Newmarket base on Tuesday afternoon with just the sole runner in FRISKY, and the trainer has enlisted the services of William Buick for the very first time.

Yet to get off the mark in her five career starts, Frisky has shown up well in her two outings this season for Simon Pearce and has certainly hinted that her turn isn’t far away. A respectable third on her stable debut and seasonal reappearance at Pontefract in May, the daughter of Bated Breath was certainly unlucky not to shed her maiden tag at Bath last time out when bumping into James Tate’s unbeaten filly and impressive winner, Royal Aclaim.

Frisky appears to have leading claims on Tuesday afternoon and unless one of the three newcomers is well above average, Simon Pearce’s filly will be difficult to beat and she can belatedly open her account at the sixth time of asking.

SIP AND SMILE – (14:45, Stay At Hampton By Hilton Almada Mile Handicap

William Buick will have high hopes of landing Hamilton’s feature race with George Boughey’s SIP AND SMILE, who has recorded 3 wins from his 8 starts this season.

The dual all-weather winner posted his first victory on turf with a smart front-running display over seven furlongs at Doncaster back in May, and whilst he was unable to follow up at Sandown over a mile just twelve days later, George Boughey’s son of acclamation still produced an eye-catching effort, keeping on well in the closing stages to finish a respectable third.

Not seen to great effect in a tactical four-runner affair when returning to Town Moor earlier this month, Sip And Smile still remains open to plenty of improvement over this trip and given the number of confirmed pace angles in here, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see George Boughey’s charge ridden with a bit more restraint on Tuesday afternoon and expect William Buick’s mount to be staying on late in the day.

CHARLES ST – (15:15, Hamilton-park.co.uk Handicap)

Connections will be confident that CHARLES ST can return to the winner’s enclosure on Tuesday afternoon with William Buick taking over in the saddle for the very first time.

Although winless in his last four starts, Charles St has been far from disgraced since switching to handicaps and has posted some notable efforts in defeat in his recent outings. Second to Sir Mark Prescott’s well-bred colt Sea King at Doncaster back in April, George Boughey’s Outstrip gelding filled the same position the following month when beaten a head in the valuable Edinburgh Cup at Musselburgh.

A half-brother to Mark Johnston’s fifteen-time winner Watersmeet, connections will expect Charles St to develop into a very useful stayer in time and there are surely plenty of staying handicaps to be won with him, especially from his current mark of 82.

JUDY’S PARK – (15:50, cleanstay At Hampton By Hilton Handicap)

JUDY’S PARK has been kept busy on the all-weather surface this campaign and was having just her second outing on turf when finishing runner-up under William Buick over six furlongs at Nottingham last month.

The Charming Thought filly has only won one of her thirteen starts so far, however, trainer George Boughey will be confident that there is some room for improvement from her current mark of 67 as she takes on older rivals for the first time on Tuesday afternoon.

In receipt of plenty of weight from her eight rivals, Judy’s Park will be expected to go close now racing against some exposed handicappers and her racing style suggests that she will be very much suited by Hamilton’s stiff uphill finish.

REFUGE – (16:25, Every Race Live On Racing Tv Handicap)

It’s certainly not very often that William Buick picks up a ride for North Yorkshire handler Mick Easterby, in fact, the pair have only teamed up on four previous occasions. Of those four runners, two were successful and both jockey and trainer will be confident of adding to that tally with the recent course and distance winner REFUGE

The five-year-old was winning for just the second time in his career when landing a low-grade handicap here earlier this month and while that latest success is certainly nothing to write home about, Refuge did it well and was comfortably on top of his four rivals as he crossed the line.

A subsequent 2lb rise seems very fair on that evidence and although he is clearly not the most straightforward, Refuge should have every chance of following up in this fairly modest contest and connections will be confident William Buick can steer the five-year-old to his second course and distance victory.
