Can Bowen Keep It Going - Sean Seeks Uttoxeter Treble On Wednesday

Sean Bowen may be a surprise early leader in the Jump Jockeys’ Championship, but his continued brilliance means he is five winners clear at the top of the standings. We have analysed his three rides at Uttoxeter on Wednesday, alongside 888‘s new customer offer of £30 in Free Bets + a £10 Casino Bonus when you deposit £10.

VOKOLOHS (3.03 Uttoxeter)

Bowen’s opening ride is not unti, the third race on the card. VOKOLOHS, seemingly a misspelling of the backwards name of his sire Sholokhov, runs for Olly Murphy on his rules debut here.

He made his first point to point appearance at Edgcote last May and the six-year-old looked well-equipped for a jumps career. He finished second, but has had to go a long time to make his first rules appearance, having joined Murphy in November.

He is a half-brother to two horses who recorded RPRs over 100, both of whom won on multiple occasions. Overall, his is a stout, jumping family and he was also worthy of a £34,000 purchase at Cheltenham’s May sale last year.

Fenna’s Loss was a winner in a bumper recently, but he is the only one in this lineup and there is not a lot of depth elsewhere. He would not have to be a superstar to win this and Bowen will likely be very confident of getting off to a good start for the day.

JUDGE EARLE (3.38 Uttoxeter)

A first chase success came the way of JUDGE EARLE at Ffos Las last month. It could spark a decent summer spell for the ten-year-old.

He had won twice over hurdles, including over further than 3m, prior to that victory, which also came on his fifth chase start. Four previous efforts had heeded two wide-margin defeats and two pullings up.

However, he was more assured at the Welsh venue, while he also ran well as he attempted to follow up at Worcester at the end of last month. He was runner-up that day having gone up 7lb.

3m has stretched him in recent times, but both of his last two runs suggested a return back up in trip could suit him once again. Five of his father Peter’s six runners at this venue so far this season have finished in the top three, so he can certainly be expected to go close.

COLEMANSTOWN LAD (5.13 Uttoxeter)

A second ride of the day for Murphy, COLEMANSTOWN LAD is Bowen’s representative in Uttoxeter’s finale at 5.13. He is more of an each-way opportunity than the other pair, but with early markets going 5/1 the field, this is wide-open.

He began his career with Martin Brassil in Ireland, but was beaten a long way in a novice hurdle and a bumper. He has yet to feature for Murphy either as yet, beaten a combined 104 lengths in an Aintree novice hurdle and a maiden event at Ffos Las.

There is no doubt, however, that he was changed yards with a view to handicapping. In all four starts he has been ridden with significant restraint, perhaps with the knowledge that his chances of victory were remote until he came into this sort of event.

Now that he does, he begins with a mark of 95 and while Murphy has only operated at a cool 19% strike rate in these relatively calm summer waters, he has had success with his small pool of hurdles runners here since May.
