It’s set to be a sensational four days of National Hunt action between March 12-15, as the 2024 Cheltenham Festival takes centre stage at Prestbury Park.
Here at GG we have taken a look at when all the entries for all 28 races are released, so whether you are looking for a potential horse in the Cheltenham Gold Cup or Champion Hurdle, or you are on the search for a handicapper lining up in the Coral Cup, we will have all the details for you to check to see if that horse has been entered.
Cheltenham Entries 2024
Cheltenham’s flagship race is the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup that takes place on Friday 15th March and it’s sure to see the premier staying chasers from Ireland and England do battle, with reigning champion Galopin Des Champs sure to be well fancied to retain the crown he won in emphatic style over the Paul Nicholls-trained Bravemansgame last spring. The entries for the Blue Riband race will be released on January 2 alongside the entries for both the Grade 1 Queen Mother Champion Chase, which is the day two feature, while the 2m 5f Grade 1 Ryanair Chase entry list will also be released at the start of the New Year.
Constitution Hill is the most talked about horse in racing and while Nicky Henderson’s unbeaten superstar may not be seen on a racecourse much during the season, he showed when cruising to glory in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton Park on Boxing Day that he’s a cut above his rivals. The Champion Hurdle entries will be released on January 9 alongside the Stayers’ Hurdle and Mares’ Hurdle entries, and that triumvirate of Grade 1 prizes will see some fields awash with talent.
As we move into the middle of the January the entries for all the novice chases and novice hurdles are released with the Arkle, Turners Novices’ Chase, Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase and National Hunt Chase emerging on January 16, while a week later the novice hurdle contingent will be given their potential races for Cheltenham on January 23.
The Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle, Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle and Triumph Hurdle entries are out on January 23, while the Mares’ Novices’ Chase and Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle fields are released on February 13.
As the season continues to get to the business end during February, the handicap fields will be assembled, while the last three race entries to be received will come on February 27 when the possible runners are known for the Cross Country Chase, Champion Bumper and Hunters’ Chase.
