Discussing the selection, Young explained that Doyen Du Bar had been entered in multiple races across the weekend. He was a horse he was keen to follow regardless of where connections decided to run.
The gelding had already caught his attention earlier this season when making his stable debut for trainer Nicky Richards. He shaped with plenty of promise despite strong market expectations.
Reflecting on that effort, Young said: “Harry Cobden was taking the ride back then at Newbury. He was really well supported, going from double-figure odds into 7/2 before the race.”
He also highlighted the strength of the form line, adding: “He was behind Ryan’s Rocket, who is vying for favouritism in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham, and that horse was only just beaten by Thistle Ask in the Desert Orchid at Kempton after running a massive race.”
Young believes Doyen Du Bar could be primed to strike at Kelso.
