Doncaster St Leger Festival Day 3 - Through The Card Previews & Tips For All Seven Races

Day 3 of the St Leger Festival sees something for everyone with the speedsters on show in the Flying Childers Stakes before the stayers take centre stage in the Doncaster Cup. We have produced bets through the card for the racing below, which are all available to back through William Hill and their exclusive new customer offer which provides £60 in free bets.

BAY OF HONOUR – (1.10 Doncaster, Coopers Marquees Maiden Stakes) 5/2

A tricky race with little form to go on, so a chance can be taken on the newcomer BAY OF HONOUR.

This Shamardal colt is the first foal out of Kazimiera, herself a debut winner for these connections who went on to be placed in Listed company at two.

Trainer Charlie Appleby is operating at an incredible 34% strike rate with his juveniles on turf this season, and in terms of placings, 60% of those two-year-old turf runners have reached the frame – suggesting that those backing Bay Of Honour will be given a decent run for their money.

FIND – (1.40 Doncaster, Cazoo Flying Scotsman Stakes) 10/1

Noble Truth can pull his chance away, whilst exactly what Hoo Ya Mal and Razzle Dazzle achieved the last twice can be questioned. The once-raced Ribhi warrants respect, but preference is for FIND.

Fifth on debut in what may well turn out to be one of the strongest Yarmouth novices of all time, Find then bumped into Lusail and Bayside Boy – both proven pattern performers. He justified prohibitive odds back at Yarmouth last time, and that should have done his confidence the world of good.

His powerful yard has a good recent record in this race, and his sire, Frankel, was a winner at this meeting early in his career, so everything points towards a bold showing at his current double-figure price.

Alflaila did well to finish second at York last time and is an interesting contender, as is the Irish maiden Gwan So, who represents a yard not known for tilting at windmills and connections have snapped up Jamie Spencer for the ride.

ATTAGIRL – (2.10 Doncaster, Wainwright Flying Childers Stakes) 8/1

Experience has proven far more valuable than potential in this race in recent years with just one of the last ten winners having less than four career starts.

Armor is a rightful favourite dropping in grade, but the value may be with ATTAGIRL, who is finally starting to tap into her latent ability, having proven far too keen for her own good earlier in her career.

The uprise in form has coincided with dropping back down to the minimum trip, and should they expectantly go a decent clip here you can expect to see her finishing fast and late under Danny Tudhope.

It wouldn’t be wise to completely discount French raider Papa Don’t Preach, who could sharpen up for the addition of cheekpieces and switch to a quicker surface.

STRADIVARIUS – (2.40 Doncaster, Doncaster Cup Stakes) 10/11

A tenacious success in last month’s Lonsdale Cup confirmed that STRADIVRIUS retains all of his enthusiasm for this game, and with the seven-year-old getting better the further he went that day you can only imagine getting back over this distance will eke out more improvement.

Main market rival Trueshan has neither ground nor weight in his favour, having to give the three-pound superior rated Stradivarius two pounds here, whilst this represents a huge jump in class for the likes of Rodrigo Diaz and Alerta Roja.

Nayef Road could improve for the return to a quicker surface, but he has already had many opportunities to claim the scalp of Stradivarius.

UBER COOL – (3.15 Doncaster, racehorselotto.com Mallard Handicap) 15/2

Irish raider Sevenna Star is thrown in off this mark if anywhere near his best form, but softer ground may be preferable – the latter a comment that also applies to Prince Alex and Future Investment.

UBER COOL has proven that he retains all of his ability since returning from 959 days off the track. His latest fourth in Listed company at Chester produced a career best RPR, and therefore it is slightly surprising to see his mark left untouched on his return to handicap company. The 15/2 available looks well worth taking.

The consistent Speedo Boy can be expected to be on the premises again, albeit his current mark gives him little wriggle room, whilst Lucky Deal is becoming attractive from a handicapping perspective but may be best waited with until returning to the all-weather.

SUMMER SANDS – (3.45 Doncaster, Cazoo Handicap) 40/1

Able Kane deserves to get his head in front, but he is paying the price for his consistency. Asjad can reverse recent form with Desert Doctor and looks well-handicapped but softer ground may be needed.

In what looks an open contest, a chance is taken on SUMMER SANDS.

It seems a distant memory, but this gelding was once a 100/1 third in the Group 1 Middle Park – where he was beaten only narrowly behind the likes of Earthlight and Golden Horde.

It’s safe to say that his career has nosedived since then, but he is now back in the care of Richard Fahey and his latest run at Thirsk was better than the bare result. He is five pounds lower here, so now running off a mark of just 90, and if connections can get a clear run into him, he should prove well up to this rating.

At odds of 40/1, he looks worth chancing.

SEA LA ROSA – (4.20 Doncaster, British EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap) 7/2

SEA LA ROSA is bred to be better than a mark of 87, and her recent performances have done little to disprove that.

She saw off the challenge of a subsequent winner at Redcar on her penultimate start, before going down narrowly when attempting to follow up at York last time.

Going back up to this trip looks certain to suit and talented claimer Adam Farragher (who is 1-1 on the filly) is back in the saddle today.
