We now know the full field for the 2024 Betfred Derby at Epsom and here at GG we take a look at all 16 runners for the iconic Group 1 contest. Check out everything you need to know about all the three-year-old colts bidding for Classic glory at 4:30pm on Saturday afternoon…
1. Ambiente Friendly
(Robert Havlin/James Fanshawe) (Jockey/Trainer)
A stunning four-and-a-half length winner of the Lingfield Derby Trial a few weeks ago, Ambiente Friendly is looking to hand trainer James Fanshawe his first win in the race. Comfortably beat Illinois in that Listed contest and shaped like there’s more to come, but this is much tougher, so he will need to improve.
2. Ancient Wisdom
(William Buick/Charlie Appleby)
Star juvenile that ended his two-year-old campaign win with a Group 1 success in the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster. However, he was well beaten by Economics in the Dante Stakes at York, so will need to bounce back here for the deadly duo of Charlie Appleby and William Buick. Sure to come on for that run and has to be considered one of the leading contenders.

Epsom Derby Odds 2024: City Of Troy Heads Betting
Aidan O’Brien is bidding for a record-breaking tenth victory in the Betfred Derby, which takes place this Saturday at Epsom Downs and the master of Ballydoyle holds a strong hand at the head of the betting with City Of Troy currently the clear favourite for the Group 1 Classic. We take a look at the…
Fri 31 May 20243. Bellum Justum
(Oisin Murphy/Andrew Balding)
Bellum Justum broke his maiden tag at the fourth time of asking in September, but started this campaign with a taking win in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom in April. Course experience is a huge positive, but that success was only a Listed event and he will face a much sterner test here, however, is obviously on the upgrade, so could be a lively outsider.
4. City Of Troy
(Ryan Moore/Aidan O’Brien)
Undoubtedly the star two-year-old last season which ended with a stunning victory in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket for Aidan O’Brien. Sent off a hot favourite for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on his comeback run, but he failed to fire and could only finish ninth. The Ballydoyle team still hold him in high regard and he could well be the superstar of his generation, but he does have a cloud hanging over him as he steps up to 1m 4f for the first time. The one to beat.
5. Dallas Star
(David Egan/Adrian Murray)
Produced a career best when landing a 50/1 shock win in the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown last month and Adrian Murray’s charge will be looking to land another one here. Needs to show that win wasn’t a flash in the pan, but he’s one that could well be a surprise contender at big odds.
6. Dancing Gemini
(Dylan Browne McMonagle/Roger Teal)
A Listed winner as a two-year-old, Dancing Gemini ran an absolute corker in France last time out as he finished a fine runner-up in the French 2000 Guineas. Stepping up in trip for Roger Teal at the weekend, the son of Camelot will be looking to improve on that effort and is one that could really relish the test of a Derby at Epsom.

Epsom Derby Trends – Who the Stats Point to in British Racing’s Flagship Event
The Epsom Derby is rapidly approaching. With time ticking down until the race gets underway, Dave Young has analysed the best statistics and trends to pick out three horses who should run well. The Epsom Derby is the absolute pinnacle of Flat racing and although we’re missing this year’s 2,000 Guineas winner, we’re hopefully still…
Wed 29 May 20247. Deira Mile
(Jim Crowley/Owen Burrows)
Winless in four starts as a two-year-old, which included finishing fourth in the Futurity Trophy, Deira Mile finally broke his duck with a facile four-length win at Windsor in April over 1m 2f. The Owen Burrows-trained contender will take a huge hike in class here, but is somewhat of an unknown quantity and can’t be completely ignored.
8. Euphoric
(Declan McDonogh/Aidan O’Brien)
The least fancied of the Aidan O’Brien-trained trio bidding for Derby glory, but Euphoric was only beaten a length by stablemate Los Angeles in the Group 3 Derby Trial at Leopardstown last time out. The son of Frankel has only raced three times and hasn’t tasted success since his debut, but he could potentially used as a pacemaker for City Of Troy and Los Angeles, who are more likely winners for Ballydoyle.

9. God’s Window
(Kieran Shoemark/John & Thady Gosden)
Two wins from three starts as a two-year-old saw God’s Window head to the Dee Stakes at Chester with a high reputation, but having blown the start he failed to land any sort of blow and trailed in last of four. John & Thady Gosden’s charge made a quick turnaroud to run in the Dante Stakes at week later, but failed to fire again, so needs to improve immeasurably here.
10. Kamboo
(Richard Kingscote/Richard Hughes)
One of the least experienced runners in the field, Kamboo will be making his seasonal reappearance in the Derby on Saturday and he only has a maiden win at Kempton on the all-weather to his name. That success came back in December, so this is a monstrous rise in class and he’s likely to find everything a little too hot to handle.

Epsom Derby Runners 2024: Check Out The 16 Horses Bidding For Classic Glory
Aidan O’Brien’s City Of Troy is bidding to bounce back from a disappointing comeback run in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and the star juvenile is one of 16 horses declared for Saturday’s Betfred Derby at Epsom Downs. We take a look at the horses that are bidding for Classic glory in the Epsom Derby…
Fri 31 May 202411. Los Angeles
(Wayne Lordan/Aidan O’Brien)
Unbeaten in three starts, Los Angeles showed his Derby credentials with a fine win in the Group 3 Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown, which has always been a race that has thrown up leading Classic contenders. The Camelot colt has been popular in the betting since that last success and he will be one of the biggest rivals to stablemate City Of Troy as the pair look to hand Aidan O’Brien a record-breaking tenth win in the race.
12. Macduff
(Rossa Ryan/Ralph Beckett)
Fourth in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket last season, Macduff continued to show a decent level of ability when chasing home Arabian Crown in the Classic Trial at Sandown Park. Ralph Beckett’s son of Sea The Stars will relish the step to 1m 4f here and he’s one that looks to have the capabilities of producing more at the highest level. Has to be a huge contender.

13. Mr Hampstead
(Sean Levey/Dominic Ffrench-Davis)
Still a maiden after three runs, Mr Hampstead will have his first run for Dominic Ffrench-Davis and he was last seen being beaten in a maiden at Chester’s May Meeting. Looks to face a huge assignment here to figure whatsoever and looks one of the least likely winners.
14. Sayedaty Sadaty
(Tom Marquand/Andrew Balding)
One win in seven runs doesn’t give you much confidence in Andrew Balding’s Sayedaty Sadaty, but he ran an adequate race when second in the Listed Newmarket Stakes last time out. He is a big price here and rightly so, but he could be one at huge odds that runs a decent race.
15. Tabletalk
(James Doyle/Tom Clover)
Won a Chelmsford maiden a couple of weeks to book his place at Epsom, but Tom Clover’s quest for a first Derby win looks to be a hard one with Tabletalk facing a gargantuan task. The Camelot colt is sure to improve for only his second run, but now dining at the top table he may find it all happens a little quickly for him.
16. Voyage
(Pat Dobbs/Richard Hannon)
A 28/1 winner of a novice stakes at Newbury last month on debut, Richard Hannon’s Voyage is a fascinating runner in the Derby. The son of former Derby hero Golden Horn is being thrown in at the deep end here, but he’s one that could be a potential Group horse in the future and is one of the most eye-catching runners in this year’s field.
