I have backed NASHWA, I thought 4/1 was too big, I thought she should be shorter than that and if she doesn’t handle the track or doesn’t stay the trip, so be it. She has got a very smart turn of foot and she will give herself every chance of getting this trip by the way she settles in her race.
The one at a bigger price I’ve also backed is CONCERT HALL. I am surprised that Ryan Moore has chosen to ride Tuesday in this and not Concert Hall. Concert Hall’s dam Was won this nine years ago. She stepped up in trip from the 1000 Guineas and won the Epsom Oaks, and this horse has been absolutely screaming to go up to a mile and a half.

This race has been dominated by the Gosden’s and Aidan O’Brien. In the last ten renewals, they’ve shared nine between them, only Talent for Ralph Beckett has broken the sequence. Ralph Beckett has got MOON DE VEGA here who was only fourth in the Cheshire Oaks last time, but she got absolutely mullered on the inside rail and had to wait an age for a run by which time the three that beat her had flown off a steady pace. Although she was beaten six or seven lengths that day, I still thought that was an encouraging effort, so I wouldn’t put you off backing Moon De Vega each-way.

The main selection is TUESDAY, who can uphold the form with Concert Hall. I am glad that Ryan Moore has chosen her after she ran an absolute corker in the Irish 1000 Guineas behind Homeless Songs, who I think is a very smart filly. That trip for Tuesday was never going to see her in the best light being a daughter of Galileo and a sister to Minding. Her pedigree is impeccable being out of Lillie Langtry, so I can’t leave her going unbacked at the price. Thoughts Of June can run into a place.

I’m firmly in the EMILY UPJOHN camp, who’s blown me away with her runs at Sandown and York, most recently landing the Musidora which Snowfall prepped in prior to her victory 12 months ago. She looks more of a galloper than a quickener to my eye so should be suited by going up an extra couple of furlongs and given she comes out best on official ratings I think it’s no shock that she’s so short in the market. Concert Hall rates the main danger with this trip surely going to unlock improvement, whilst Tranquil Lady can come home in third given her excellent pedigree and the stable that she hails from.

Ballydoyle have been associated with some outstanding fillies over the years and none more so than Minding, who won a staggering seven Group 1’s during her illustrious career, including the Oaks in 2016. Her full-sister TUESDAY has developed into a talented filly as well, finishing third on her penultimate start in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket before chasing home the impressive Homeless Songs in the Irish equivalent at The Curragh on her most recent outing.
Both of those efforts in defeat have suggested that Tuesday will benefit from stepping up in trip, and whilst there are some stamina concerns based on her pedigree, it’s worth remembering that Aidan O’Brien nominated the Oaks as a future target following her winning reappearance at Naas earlier in the season and clearly believes Tuesday will thrive over middle distances.

Emily Upjohn might simply be too powerful, but I am not convinced her trial was so much better than a number of others. I would be tempted to save each-way on Tranquil Lady who looked to improve significantly for her comeback run when winning last time, but I was even more enamoured with NASHWA, who was asked for very little by Hollie Doyle when winning at Newbury. She may be a better-balanced individual than her stablemate, which can help her contend with Epsom’s cambers. I would fancy her to stay 1m4f if ridden quietly and she has an excellent chance if she does.
