Newmarket handler George Boughey sent out 85 winners in the 2021 season and has started this campaign in tremendous form. Cachet recently provided the trainer with his first Classic success in the 1000 Guineas and will be hoping a few of his other stable stars can lead the way over the next coming months. Our expert editor has highlighted 10 runners to follow for the season ahead, along with a new customer sign-up offer at bet365, where you can grab £50 In Free Bets when you sign-up and bet £10.
Charles St
Staying handicaps will certainly be on the agenda this season for CHARLES ST who has created a favourable impression since making his debut for the yard back in January. Unraced as a juvenile, the three-year-old was beaten just half a length on his debut over ten furlongs at Lingfield before comfortable opening his account when stepped up to 1m4f on his following start at Wolverhampton.
Following a small break, Charle St has continued to catch the eye, finishing runner-up on two occasions including when chasing home Sir Mark Prescott’s progressive colt Sea King at Doncaster last month. A half brother to fifteen-time winner Watersmeet, Charles St is bred to stay a lot further in time and is certainly one to keep on the right side as the season unfolds.

Cachet
The Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot will be the next port of call for CACHET who completed a tremendous Newmarket double on her return as a three-year-old, readily taking the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes before gamely fending off the challenge of Prosperous Voyage to land her first Group 1 success in the Qipco 1000 Guineas.
Standout efforts last season as a juvenile in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes and Group 1 Fillies Mile highlighted Cachet as one to follow and with the filly being out of the sire Aclaim, she is bred to be even better as she matures and George Boughey will be confident Cachet can add to her opening Group 1 victory this season.
Corazon
Despite suffering an injury when last seen on the track, CORAZON remains a sprinter to follow after rising through the ranks during her two-year-old season last year. A winner at Lingfield on just her second start, Corazon was soon sent to Longchamp to contest the Group 3 Prix D’arenberg in September where the filly rattled home with a late burst of speed to prevail by a neck.
Not beaten far in third on her following start in the Group 2 Flying Childers, Corazon failed to make an impact in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket after sustaining a knee injury over the six-furlong trip.
Connections are likely to revert to five furlongs with her this season and targets such as the Nunthorpe Stakes and the Prix de L’Abbaye at Longchamp could be on her radar when she returns as a three-year-old.

Fiorina
A mark of 74 could seriously underestimate FIORINA who remains a maiden after three promising outings for connections last season. Slowly away on debut at Kempton back in September over seven furlongs, the daughter of Showcasing produced an eye-catching effort to finish seventh, beaten just over four lengths at the line. A similar performance soon followed on the Rowley Mile where Fiorina again kept on in taking style to finish sixth, finishing behind the likes of dual winner Ribbon Rose and the well-touted Ameynah for Roger Varian.
Stepped up to a mile for the first time at Kempton in November, George Boughey’s filly appeared outpaced turning for home but again made notable late headway, finishing fourth behind Al Husn – who has since comfortably scored in Class 2 company over the same course and distance from a mark of 82.
Targets such as the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot could be very much on the cards as the season unfolds and she is certainly one to keep an eye on when she makes her belated return as a three-year-old.
Missed The Cut
Three-year-old colt MISSED THE CUT opened his account at the second time of asking over a mile when thumping five rivals by eleven lengths at Pontefract at the back end of last month. A $400,000 purchase as a foal, he was formerly in the care of Roger Varian prior to making the short journey to George Boughey. No match for a trio of promising Godolphin runners on debut at Newmarket over ten furlongs, including Aldous Huxley and New London, Missed The Cut still ran an encouraging race to finish fourth and wasn’t subject to a hard ride under Ryan Moore.
The imposing colt should benefit in time from being stepped back up in trip following his Pontefract victory and it would come as no surprise if Missed The Cut racks up a few more victories this year in the colours of Ed Babington.

Mystic Wells
MYSTIC WELLS appears to be another filly held in high regard by the Newmarket handler and it will certainly be interesting to see how the three-year-old is campaigned this term. After contesting a Class 2 maiden at Newmarket on her two-year-old debut, Mystic Wells readily got off the mark when switching to the all-weather at Southwell, comfortably justifying strong market support by three and three-quarter lengths over the seven-furlong trip.
Pitched into Listed company on her final juvenile outing over a mile, the filly made her seasonal return at Windsor last month over ten furlongs, finishing second by a length to progressive Godolphin runner After The Rain. Following that encouraging return to action, Mystic Wells recorded her second career victory when rallying gamely to deny Enfranchise by a head at Brighton.
George Boughey’s filly has seemingly progressed markedly from two to three and with further improvement to come this campaign, connections will be hoping the filly can win plenty more races and collect some black type before the season ends.
Oscula
OSCULA proved to be a real flag-bearer for this yard last season, winning three times as a juvenile including when landing Group 3 honours at Deauville over seven furlongs – providing the yard with their first taste of Group success.
Oscula also posted plenty of taking efforts in defeat last year, finishing behind Sandrine in the Albany and Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes before chasing home stablemate Cachet and David Loughnane’s Hello You in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.
Well held when last seen in the valuable Saudi Derby Cup in Riyadh, Oscula still remains open to significant improvement as a three-year-old and connections have already given her a preliminary entry in the Irish 1000 Guineas towards the end of May.

Sip And Smile
The Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot has been mentioned as a potential target for SIP AND SMILE this season despite the three-year-old racing exclusively over six furlongs so far in his short career.
A taking winner on debut at Newcastle back in January, Sip And Smile returned in February and completed a quickfire double over course and distance, staying on strongly inside the final furlong to get up close home and prevail by a head as the winning post loomed.
Unable to maintain his unbeaten record on handicap debut at Kempton, the three-year-old was then switched to turf for the very first time at Doncaster. Outpaced from an early stage, Sip And Smile could never land a significant blow but did keep on well behind the leaders despite hanging in the closing stages.
Rated 77, George Boughey’s charge should appreciate stepping up in trip in due course and given his unexposed profile, it would come as no surprise if the three-year-old adds to his tally over the coming months.
Tollard Royal
The lightly-raced TOLLARD ROYAL should have little trouble making his mark in top handicaps this season after winning two of his three starts for connections. Well supported ahead of his debut at Kempton last season, George Boughey’s charge went into many people’s notebooks on that occasion after scoring impressively in the hands of James Doyle over the mile trip.
Unable to justify prohibitive odds on his following start at Chelmsford, the three-year-old returned to the track last month following a 181-day break at Beverley over the extended mile. Hooded for the first time, Tollard Royal quickly established a lead under Ben Curtis and never looked in any danger, staying on strongly to record his second career victory by two and a half lengths.
Rated 91, Tollard Royal is still open to significant improvement especially when upped further in trip this season and the three-year-old is certainly an exciting prospect to look forward to.

Juvenile To Follow: Pastiche
The yard has quickly been associated with sending out its fair share of talented juveniles and was responsible for 39 two-year-old winners last season. Whilst it’s often difficult to assess newcomers, one that certainly catches the eye is PASTICHE who is set to run in the colours of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing. Related to a former Listed winner, the daughter of Champion Australian sire Zoustar is bred to be precocious and is one to watch out for when she makes her eagerly anticipated debut this season.
