Our team at GG have taken a peak at Day Two of Glorious Goodwood and picked out their best bet, alongside 888’s latest offer where new customers can claim £20 In Free Bets when placing a £5 bet on Goodwood this week.
Daryl Carter – Oscula (each way), Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes
The front three in the market here are drawn stalls 16, 12 and 15, yet Bilesdon Brook is the only horse that has won this race drawn higher than stall six since 2015, so this could pan out well for OSCULA. She is turned out quickly, and providing a busy campaign hasn’t caught up with her should have things runs to suit here from a good draw in stall two. There is very little pace on offer, especially amongst those drawn low, so should connections revert to front running tactics, she could prove very hard to pass with the drop back to 7f highly likely to suit. She was caught late at Ascot by Jumbly on Saturday, but her record over this 7f trip reads 312331 and providing she doesn’t find this coming too quickly (she has won and finished third when turned out within seven days previously), she should be hard to keep out of the frame.
Andrew Mount – The Attorney, World Pool Handicap
There looks to be plenty of early pace in this race and it could be set up perfectly for THE ATTORNEY, who looks well drawn in stall 4. The Charles Hills-trained four-year-old was a big eyecatcher over course and distance last month, looking likely to score approaching the cutaway but getting worn down by The Turpinator who sneaked up his inside. He carried 10-02 that day, so don’t be put off by top weight of 10-01 this time. He’s run well in both starts since that course outing, again finding one too good at Newcastle before a solid 18-1 fifth of 18 to Bless Him in the Bunbury Cup. William Buick, who won on him at Leicester in July of last year, returns to the saddle for the colt’s fifth run of the current campaign – it might be coincidence, but he won fifth-time out in 2020 and again last season. Aside from seasonal debuts – which he always needs – his record stands at 5331431122225 (3-16) suggesting he’s going to be desperately difficult to kick out of the frame.
Joe Napier – Secret State, Coral Beaten-By-A-Length Free Bet Handicap
Day two can start with a bang for Godolphin and favourite backers because SECRET STATE has a tremendous chance of following up his Royal Ascot victory. Charlie Appleby’s three-year-old has been beaten only by the unbeaten Francisco Clemente and the form of his maiden and novice successes at both Chester and Nottingham is strong. Stepped up to 1m4f, he won gamely in the King George V Stakes, beating Deauville Legend into second. That runner-up has since won a Group 3 and Secret State was conceding him 4lb at the royal meeting. A 7lb rise should keep him from the grasp of the handicapper before he himself gets a crack at Group races.

Joe Eccles – Rocket Rodney, Molecomb Stakes
I can’t get away from the chances of ROCKET RODNEY in the Molecomb Stakes. He was arguably a little unlucky not to take the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot last month and the winner has since proven himself to be one of this season’s leading juveniles. Rocket Rodney hosed up in the Listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown last time, with a two-and-a-half length winning margin underplaying his superiority over that field. A previous course winner who just looks all speed, I’m surprised that he’s not an odds-on short for this.
Jordan Arksey– Mandobi, Coral Beaten-By-A-Length Free Bet Handicap
Although he comes here on a bit of a recovery mission after running way below his best in the King George V Stakes at the Royal meeting, William Haggas’ MANDOBI represents plenty of value in the opening contest on Wednesday afternoon. Prior to his flop last time out, the smartly bred son of Iffraaj had certainly looked like a three-year-old to follow in his opening two starts this season. A half-length winner of a ten-furlong novice at Ripon in April, Mandobi gave weight and a beating to Charlie Hills’ subsequent two-time winner Tamarama, while the distant third that day Bruno’s Gold, recently landed a handicap at Ayr off a mark of 76. Following his opening novice success at Ripon, William Haggas’ progressive colt took the step up to twelve furlongs in his stride on his penultimate start at Thirsk, thumping four rivals by just under five lengths, defeating a pair of subsequent winners in the process – including James Tate’s Wait To Excel who is now rated 92. Rated 94, it would be no surprise to see William Haggas’ colt bounce back to form and with double-figure odds still available, the three-year-old is worthy of strong each-way support.
Rob Plumbridge – Alcohol Free (W/O Baaeed), Qatar Sussex stakes
The talking horse on Day Two of Glorious Goodwood is clearly Baaeed and he will take some stopping given everything we have seen so far in his career. He’s 1/6 and will more than likely make it 9 career victories. There is one horse that stands out in the opposition in ALCOHOL FREE and I’m happy to back her in the betting without the favourite market. She’s around 15/8 to chase him home and I think the race will pan out perfectly for her to do so. She won this race last year with a superb run down the outside picking up so well later on. She has plenty of pace, as she showed when bouncing back to form in the Group 1 July Cup last time, and will be passing plenty of these late on. I think she’ll chase home the hot favourite in the final furlong and claim 2nd at the very least here.
