Richard Hannon’s Rosallion is a hot favourite for Saturday’s Irish 2000 Guineas, which takes place at the Curragh, as the British-trained raider attempts to build on a fine second placed finish in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket a few weeks ago. We take a look at the latest Irish 2000 Guineas odds in what should be a fabulous renewal.
A stunning winner of the Group 1 Jean-Luc Lagardere in France at the back end of last season, Hannon’s hotpot was well fancied for the Guineas at Newmarket, but was edged out of proceedings by Notable Speech. However, he’s back for more and bidding for a first Classic success and he’s hovering around the 5/4 mark for the Group 1 showpiece this weekend.
Aidan O’Brien has won this race an astonishing 12 times during his illustrious career and the master of Ballydoyle could have a whole host of contenders taking their chance, but the shortest of them is River Tiber, who fluffed his lines in the second half of the last season. The Coventry Stakes winner is a 100/30 chance for Saturday’s contest, but he was last seen finishing third in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, so needs to improve on that effort.

Irish 2000 Guineas Trends – Newmarket Runner-Up to Gain Compensation?
The first of the Irish Classics gets underway on Saturday with the Irish 2000 Guineas. Dave Young has run the trends through the supercomputer to come up with a standout selection. The Irish 2,000 Guineas has seen some serious horses taking the spoil over the years and it’s a showcase for so many 2yo stars….
Tue 21 May 2024Henry Longfellow is another eye-catching O’Brien entry and he’s another looking to recapture his best form as the 6/1 chance was last seen failing to get a clear run in the French 2000 Guineas, but can’t be ignored having shown some smart juvenile form. The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Unquestionable is another O’Brien runner and is also available at 6/1, while Igor Stravinsky is a 20/1 chance for the Ballydoyle team.
Hannon could be double-handed and while Rosallion will be the flagbearer for the yard he could also saddle Haatem, who is a 7/1 shot and was a fine third in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. Form to reverse with his stablemate, Haatem showed when winning the Craven Stakes last month that he’s a class act and he adds more depth to the race.
