Kevin's In Heaven - Bang In-form Brogan Bids for 136/1 Newton Abbot Wednesday Treble

Kevin Brogan is enjoying a fantastic start to the 2022/23 Jumps season, having ridden out his claim courtesy of a 179/1 double at Worcester last week, Brogan has gone on to ride winners at Market Rasen and Warwick. He heads to Newton Abbot on Wednesday in search of a 136/1 treble, and we’ve assessed the chances of his mounts here, which you can check out along with Sky Bet’s fantastic new customer offer of Bet £5 Get £20 In Free Bets.

MILLBANK FLYER – (1.30, St Austell Brewery Novices’ Handicap Chase) 4/1

Kevin Brogan’s first ride on Newton Abbot’s Wednesday card comes in the track’s 3m2f handicap chase, where he partners up with the six-race maiden MILLBANK FLYER.

Harry Fry’s charge is closely related to the smart hurdler/chaser Chantry House and despite failing to get off the mark in his career up to now he has shown clear signs of ability, including a notable third to the now 137-rated Onemorefortheroad.

Millbank Flyer was back from a break when fifth at Taunton in February, he has another absence to overcome here, but a mark of 102 is surely workable on the pick of his form and cheekpieces look an interesting addition.

Genuinely good ground suits Millbank Flyer, and he is certainly not as exposed as most in this lineup, so it’s no shock to see him prominent in the market here and any further betting support should be noted.

GET BACK GET BACK – (2.05, Racing Welfare Mental Health Awareness Week Handicap Hurdle) 4/1

Harry Fry and Kevin Brogan once again team up at Newton Abbot in the following 2m2f handicap hurdle, where GET BACK GET BACK represents the pair.

This 7yo has failed to win since September 2020 but he has shown some fine form in defeat in the interim, chasing home Sea The See (now officially rated 16lb higher) at Wincanton in October.

Get Back Get Back was making his first start since when running at Exeter last month, but despite being sent off the 4/6F he finished last of three under Nick Sholfield.

Kevin Brogan takes over in the saddle this afternoon and considering that Get Back Get Back raced keenly at Exeter the last day, it’s hoped the run will have knocked the freshness out of him. This mark of 122 is a pound below Get Back Get Back’s last winning one, and therefore it’s clearly not beyond him if on a going day.

MUY BIEN – (3.10, Racing Partnership Novices’ Handicap Hurdle) 9/2

The last of Kevin Brogan’s three Newton Abbot Wednesday rides once again comes for Harry Fry, with MUY BIEN taking to the track in search of a first career success under rules.

This son of Cloudings hasn’t really kicked on from a close-up (beaten just over a length) debut bumper fifth at Kempton, but he outran odds of 100/1 when third (albeit a distant one) in a maiden hurdle at Taunton on penultimate run.

Punters clearly expected Muy Bien to improve significantly for the switch to handicap company when the gelding was backed into 7/2F at Taunton last time out, but Muy Bien failed to justify that support, finishing well down the field.

There’s a suspicion that the 6yo failed to provide his true running for whatever reason that day, and he has been freshened up since, which could be significant. There should be days in this horse.
