Aidan O’Brien’s former Derby hero Auguste Rodin is one of the star attractions amongst the nine horses entered for Saturday’s King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes, which takes place at Ascot. We take a look at the possible King George runners for the 2024 renewal here…
Imperious when claiming Epsom Classic glory last season, Auguste Rodin showed when storming to victory in the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot that he is still a top class performer for Ballydoyle and he’s a clear market leader for Saturday’s King George that has attracted some top notch middle distance performers.
Charlie Appleby’s globetrotting six-year-old Rebel’s Romance is another eye-catching entry for the 1m 3f 211y contest and the Godolphin raider will head into this on the back of a fine Group 1 win at Sha Tin. A shock 28/1 winner of the Sheema Classic in Dubai back in March, Rebel’s Romance showed when winning the Glorious Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last year that he can perform on British soil.

King George Odds – Auguste Rodin Favourite for Second Successive Ascot Group 1
From 33 initial entries, 11 confirmations have been made for the 2024 running of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes at Ascot. The 1m4f Group 1 is the feature race on Saturday 27th July, and is a race very often akin to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe later in the season….
Thu 25 Jul 2024An impressive win in the Middleton Stakes at York earlier in the season saw Bluestocking show she’s a top class filly and the daughter of Camelot used that Group 2 win as a springboard to Group 1 success in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh and she will add more depth to the race.
With four wins in the race, the abovementioned O’Brien is one of the most successful trainers in the history of the race and he could unleash a strong team at Saturday’s race. The five-year-old Luxembourg was last seen storming to Group 1 glory in the Coronation Cup at Epsom and is another heading into the race in fine form.
Second in the Irish Derby behind Los Angeles, David Menuisier’s Sunway will be one of the notable three-year-olds looking to down the older horses, while the likes of Dubai Honour and Middle Earth are another brace of quality performers aiming to etch their name on the illustrious roll of honour.
