Nashwa delivers first foal as Blue Diamond lands Dubawi colt

Blue Diamond Stud has announced the birth of Nashwa’s first foal, a colt by Dubawi, giving Imad Alsagar’s homebred Classic heroine an immediate, high-octane start to her broodmare career.

Alsagar, who bred and raced the Frankel filly, described the new arrival with passion. “We’re delighted with Nashwa’s first foal, a good strong colt with an attractive head and plenty of quality,” he said. “Nashwa is extremely special to us as a homebred champion from a family that we continue to develop. She will now return to Dubawi.”

That return visit is the key tactical note. Blue Diamond has already seen what Dubawi can do with this female line. Alsagar has opted to press the same button again, chasing the blend of Dubawi’s power and Frankel’s class that made Nashwa such a tough, athletic competitor at the top table.

Former track starlet Nashwa had a fine record on the track

Nashwa signed off a race record that reads like a trainer’s dream: she won the Prix de Diane, Nassau Stakes and Falmouth Stakes. She repeatedly travelled with purpose in elite company when the tempo lifted. She also hit the frame in the Oaks, Juddmonte International, Irish Champion Stakes and Prix de l’Opera.

The family continues to throw runners, not just catalogue appeal. Nashwa is a half-sister to Nebras, a Dubawi gelding who landed the Listed Quebec Stakes at Lingfield in December.

Princess Loulou, Nashwa’s dam, has a yearling colt, Nasheed, a brother to Nashwa, and she is currently in foal to Dubawi. Blue Diamond has also pencilled Princess Loulou in for Sea The Stars this season.
