Qatar Nassau Stakes Preview (Goodwood 3.35pm, Thursday, July 29)

KEY STATS AND TRENDS…

Age:

Seven of the last ten winners were three-year-olds and backing all 37 qualifiers would have resulted in a small profit of £2.60 to a £1 level stake at SP. Four-year-olds were just one from 27 (-£20.50), five-year-olds two from nine (+£14.50) and six-year-olds 0-3.

Running style:

One winner made all, five were prominent and four came from off the pace.

Days since last run:

All ten wins last raced between 28 and 47 days ago.

Prep run:

All ten winners ran in a Group 1 or Group 2 race last time. Five at Ascot and four at the Curragh. Backing the qualifiers from Ascot would have returned a profit of £25.65.

Recent form:

Only two of the last ten winners were successful on their latest outing (-£13.90 to a £1 level stake at SP). Six winners finished second in their prep race and two were unplaced.

THE MAIN CONTENDERS…

AUDARYA

AUDARYA signed off last year with victory at the Breeders’ Cup and ran a fine race on her comeback when a close second to Love in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot. She looks sure to go well if the ground remains on the quick side.

LADY BOWTHORPE

LADY BOWTHORPE chased home Palace Pier in the Lockinge and has run solid races since at Royal Ascot and in the Falmouth at Newmarket. She has each-way claims if the ground doesn’t turn heavy.

JOAN OF ARC

JOAN OF ARC was eased down close home when landing the Group 1 Prix de Diane last time and is unlucky not to be unbeaten in her three runs beyond 7f. She won’t mind if conditions ease.

Conclusion: AUDARYA is a good trends fit and meets nothing of Love’s calibre here. She can get the better of Joan Of Arc, who hasn’t had many opportunities at this trip.
