GG tipster Andrew Mount reveals his list of eyecatchers from the past week’s racing. Check them out below, along with an excellent offer from William Hill of Bet £10 – Get £30 In Free Bets.
BRANDY LOVE (second, Grade 3 mares hurdle, Fairyhouse, Saturday, January 29)
BRANDY LOVE, one of the 7-4 joint-favourites, hated the right-handed track, losing valuable ground by jumping persistently out to her left. She did well to finish only three and a half lengths back in second place and will be interesting when returned to a left-handed venue. She’s entered in Grade 1 company at left-handed Leopardstown on Sunday and will be worth an each-way interest if taking up that engagement.
CERTAINLY RED (second, 2m4f novices’ chase, Wincanton, Wednesday, January 26)
CERTAINLY RED found only odds-on favourite Danny Kirwan too good when 17-2 for this 2m4f novices’ contest and can be backed when returned to a longer trip. His two wins in handicap hurdles came over trips of about three miles, here and at Chepstow, and the way he rallied on his chase debut suggests he’ll be going one better soon.
DUTCH SCHULTZ (fourth, 2m maiden hurdle, Down Royal, Tuesday, January 25)
DUTCH SCHULTZ, a dual winner on the Flat, shaped with promise on his third hurdles outing and will be of interest when handicapping. Gavin Cromwell’s five-year-old was an odds-on flop at Cork on his hurdles debut in October but jumped out to his left on the right-handed track and fared better at left-handed Navan next time, despite failing to settle. He settled and jumped better here but wasn’t given a hard time behind short-priced favourite Deploy The Getaway and will find a race or two on this evidence.

FAR AWAY THOUGHTS (second, 1m auctions stakes, Lingfield, Saturday, January 29)
FAR AWAY THOUGHTS, beaten at odds of 4-7 after making the running on the ‘dead’ rail over trip and track on January 8th, did exactly the same. The 1-6 favourite was worn down in the final strides but can be forgiven this. I’d love to see him switched to Chelmsford where forcing tactics are more effective.
ILAYA (tenth, 1m7.5f handicap hurdle, Catterick, Wednesday, January 26)
There was no immediate promise in ILAYA’s effort in this Class 5 mares’ handicap hurdle but Catterick isn’t her track and she’ll be happier back at Newcastle, the scene of her two previous wins. Her full record at that venue reads 1136 (2-4), improving to 11 (2-2) on soft ground.
KAKAMORA (third, 2m4f handicap chase, Wincanton, Wednesday, January 26)
KAKAMORA is included this week as one to avoid, rather than to side with, in future. Three of the five runners were habitual pacesetters and her hold-up tactics were strongly favoured. Dorking Boy came through from off the pace to score and it was disappointed that Tom George’s gelding couldn’t trouble the winner, going down by seven lengths in third.
MAID O’MALLEY (won, 2m3.5f mares’ handicap chase, Wetherby, Thursday, January 27)
MAID O’MALLEY won despite jumping persistently out to her right on the left-handed track. There should be more to come when she returns to a left-handed. Her latest run in that direction, a runner-up effort to Burrows Diamond at Newcastle, was franked when the winner followed up by 11 lengths at Uttoxeter last Saturday.

SEVERANCE (second, 2m1f handicap hurdle, Cheltenham, Saturday, January 29)
It paid to challenge wide on the hurdles course but SEVERANCE gave up the inside to no one in this 2m1f handicap hurdle and had to settle for a half-length second. The drop in trip and solid early pace helped him to settle better and there are more races to be won with him.
WALK IN THE STORM (sixth, 2m1f Listed mares’ national hunt flat race, Cheltenham, Saturday, January 29)
WALK IN THE STORM took the inside route in the concluding bumper and her 50-1 sixth of 13 can be upgraded. She was well beaten at Huntingdon on December’s comeback but that run was probably needed and she’s best judged on her ready Newcastle success last month.
ZARZYNI (second, 6f handicap, Southwell, Thursday, January 27)
ZARZYNI is hugely talented but tends to find trouble in big fields and the 9-4 favourite did so here despite there only being nine runners. He invariably attracts market support but has never won in a field of more than seven runners and has scored just once from his last 15 starts.
