GG tipster Andrew Mount reveals his list of eyecatchers from the past week’s racing. Check them out below, along with an excellent offer from William Hill of Bet £10 – Get £30 In Free Bets.

AL ROC  (third, 3m1.5f veterans’ handicap chase, Plumpton, Wednesday, January 19)

AL ROC fared best of those to come from off the pace and best of the 11-year-olds (these races usually favour, ten-year-olds, the youngest age group eligible to take part). He was beaten a fair way but has only had two runs for David Pipe and Sandown’s military meetings could provide opportunities in the near future.

BROWN MOUSE (second, 9.4f handicap, Wolverhampton, Monday, January 24)

BROWN MOUSE showed improvement in the first-time cheekpieces, finishing second at 20-1 after making the running. The winner, third and fourth all came from midfield or further back and he should find a race at some point. Chelmsford, usually kinder to forcing tactics, could prove ideal.

BY JOVE (second, 1m3f handicap, Southwell, Monday, January 24)

Switching to the inside rail arguably cost BY JOVE the race and his three-quarters of a length defeat is worthy of a major uplift. He also caught the eye against the bias on his penultimate start when fourth at Lingfield.

GLOBAL ACCLAIM (fifth, 1m handicap, Southwell, Monday, January 24)

John Fahy took the well-drawn GLOBAL ACCLAIM (stall 9 of 9) to challenge in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail, doing well to finish fifth, two and a half lengths behind the winner who came down the stands’ side ‘golden highway’. He would have placed at least but for that move and can be supported next time.

KATH’S TOYBOY (fourth, 5f handicap, Southwell, Monday, January 24)

It was incredibly difficult to make ground towards the far side rail, putting those drawn low at a big disadvantage over all trips. KATH’S TOYBOY did well to finish fourth after racing on the slowest part of the track and can be given another chance.

ELE BREUIL (third, 3m handicap chase, Ascot, Saturday, January 22)

LE BREUIL ran his best race for some time to finish a 13-length third at 20-1 behind Cat Tiger. His best efforts have come on left-handed tracks in the spring and I’d love to see him contest the Scottish Grand National.

POPE GREGORY (fourth, 8.6f handicap, Wolverhampton, Monday, January 24)

They got racing some way out in this Class 6 contest and those who sat close to the early pace were swamped by the finishers, with the first three home described as ‘towards rear’, ‘midfield’ and ‘midfield’.

POPE GREGORY fared best of the prominent racers in fourth and can be backed next time. He could return here for the 6.45 on Friday night.

RICKSEN (fifth, 8.6f handicap, Wolverhampton, Monday, January 24)

RICKSEN fared second best of those to race on the front end in the same contest at Pope Gregory (see above) and, though a 15-race maiden, might be able to reward each-way support next time. He’d be especially interesting if dropped in trip.

SHOOT TO KILL (won, 1m handicap, Lingfield, Saturday, January 22)

SHOOT TO KILL made it three from three for Robyn Brisland with a 14-1 success from stall 1, not the easiest draw to overcome at this venue, as the surface often rides ‘dead’ on the inside rail. He clocked a useful time and can be followed until beaten.

UNEXPECTED PARTY (won, 2m3.5f handicap hurdle, Saturday, January 22)

UNEXPECTED PARTY bolted up, doing what he’d threatened to do at Cheltenham and Wetherby on his previous two starts before finding one too good on each occasion. He’s gone up 12lb to a mark of 142 and looks on course for the Coral Cup.
