GG tipster Andrew Mount reveals his list of eyecatchers from the past week’s racing;.Check them out below, along with an excellent offer from William Hill for new mobile customers of Bet £10 – Get £40.
BELEAGUERMENT (third, 1m handicap, Bellewstown, Wednesday, September 29)
Low draws enjoyed a big advantage at the two-day Bellewstown meeting last week, with stall 1 landing five of the 16 races and stalls 2 and 3 contributing a further four wins between them. Stall 12 of 12 made life difficult for BELEAGUERMENT in Wednesday’s 2.35 and his two-length 12-1 third behind runners drawn 1 and 4 can be upgraded.
COLD STARE (second, 7f handicap, Ayr, Tuesday, September 28)
COLD STARE travelled extremely strongly in rear in the 7f Class 3 handicap but the well-backed Redarna got first run and David O’Meara’s six-year-old was three-quarters of a length down at the line. He’s very consistent when given soft or heavy going and will be of particular interest back at Haydock, the scene of three of his last four wins.
EMJAYTWENTYTHREE (sixth, 6f handicap, Catterick, Tuesday, September 29)
EMJAYTWENTYTHREE was squeezed out at the start when making her debut for Alice Haynes in division two of the 6f Class 6 handicap and was always playing catch-up afterwards. She wasn’t helped by challenging in the centre of the track and her 11-1 sixth can be upgraded.

GLASS SLIPPERS (third, 5f Group 1, Longchamp, Sunday, October 3)
GLASS SLIPPERS needs a couple of runs before reaching peak fitness – her record on first two starts each term reads 36055233 (0-8) – but on her third or subsequent runs it’s 11624111121 (7-11), improving to 1111213 (5-7) when travelling overseas. That third place came in last Sunday’s Prix de l’Abbaye, a huge effort given her poor high draw. She was beaten by a neck when also poorly drawn in the same race last year then went on to win at the Breeders’ Cup. A trip to the States or Ascot on Champions Day could be next on the agenda.
LAMPROG (third, 7.5f nursery, Bellewstown, Thursday, September 30)
LAMPROG had the worst of the draw in stall 14 of 14 and though switched to the favoured rail soon after the start, she had too much ground to make up. She did well to keep on into a two-length third behind runners drawn 1 and 2 and can break her duck soon.
PHILLY’S HOPE (won, 1m handicap, Bellewstown, Wednesday, September 29)
PHILLY’S HOPE (stall 8 of 12), who was making her debut for a new yard, was drawn higher than ideal and challenged late and wide on her way to a shock victory. The 33-1 shot was followed home by runners drawn 2, 1, 4 and 5, suggesting this effort can be upgraded. She can be backed to follow up.
ROSEMARY AND THYME (sixth, 7f Listed race, Ascot, Saturday, October 2)
ROSEMARY AND THYME has only a Class 5 Polytrack win to her name from 13 starts but she may have been unlucky in the 7f Listed October Stakes at Ascot last Saturday. Hughie Morrison’s 90-rated filly was sent off at 66-1 but was only beaten by a little more than three lengths into sixth of 14 after meeting trouble at a crucial stage.

SOPHAR SOGOOD (second, 1m5.5f handicap, Chester, Saturday, October 2)
SOPHAR SOGOOD, who had won over a slightly longer trip here just seven days earlier, went close to following up. John Butler’s gelding had benefitted from a very strong pace when narrowly landing that 1m6.5f handicap from the short-priced favourite but the way he pulled clear of the third suggested he wasn’t flattered.
The pace much slower this time around and he raced very wide from the halfway stage. He kept on well but Overhaugh Street, always prominent from stall 1, saved ground around the inside and had enough left in the tank to hold on by three-quarters of a length.
YOUTHFUL KING (won, 7f restricted novice stakes, Lingfield, Thursday, September 30)
YOUTHFUL KING, an eyecatcher when a 200-1 fifth at Sandown on his penultimate start, got off at the mark at the third attempt. This Polytrack 16-1 success was especially encouraging as Fountain of Youth progeny have a superior strike-rate on turf. Luke Dace’s juvenile could continue to be underrated in the betting and will be very interesting on his handicap debut.
ZIP (third, 7f handicap, Ayr, Tuesday, September 28)
Poor old ZIP. He has the habit of running into strong pace or draw biases every time he runs and fared best of the prominent racers here, as he had when third at Haydock on his penultimate start. He’s in at Musselburgh next Monday and that track will suit his prominent running style.
