Newmarket Cambridgeshire Festival Day 3 – Through the Card Previews & Tips for All Eight Races

Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire Festival culminates on Saturday with an unmissable eight-race card that includes the Cambridgeshire itself. With an incredible day’s racing in prospect, we have produced tips through the card for the Newmarket racing – check these out below, which come alongside an exclusive Sky Bet offer that provides new customers with £30 in free bets.

OHEKA – (1.15 Newmarket, Blandford Bloodstock Maiden Fillies’ Stakes)

A tricky race to start the card, but OHEKA caught the eye when staying on into third over the July course here on debut last month.

She is entitled to have learnt plenty for that initial experience, and is certainly bred in the purple, being the first foal out of Listed winner Qatar Power.

The main danger to the selection could come in the form of Ultra Chic, who is another to have benefitted from a previous run, and has a high-class pedigree being from the family of Oaks winner Anapurna.

MASEKELA – (1.50 Newmarket, Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes)

Recent National Stakes winner Native Trail provides a good formline here between MASEKELA and Royal Patronage – with the Godolphin colt finishing four lengths ahead of Royal Patronage at Sandown, but just a short head in front of Masekela here in July.

It is seldom as simple as that, but the form would suggest that Masekela holds an advantage over his rival, and a recent victory over Bayside Boy (subsequent Group 2 winner) also looks a strong piece of form.

Coroebus won a traditionally strong debut here last month yet lacks the experience of Masekela and this race traditionally goes to a horse that’s already clued up.

CORAZON – (2.25 Newmarket, Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes)

A fascinating renewal of the Cheveley Park in prospect.

Sacred Bridge and Sandrine set the form standard here, with the latter just narrowly preferred having looked a Group 1 winner in waiting earlier this season.

The level set is not unachievable, however, and if there is one to cause a minor upset here, it is CORAZON.

George Boughey has enjoyed a fantastic season and it is in part down to the success of this filly, who provided the yard with a Group 3 victory at Longchamp earlier this month.

A subsequent third in the Flying Childers can be upgraded, as Corazon raced from an unfavourable track position and possibly hit the front too soon. With the step up to 6f looking capable of unlocking some improvement, she rates the value each-way selection at her current price.

HMS ENDEAVOUR – (3.00 Newmarket, Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes)

Perfect Power rates as the one to beat on his Prix Morny win, albeit that form has received a couple of knocks since.

Go Bears Go is a consistent sort who should run his race, but the form of the David Loughnane yard (0-14 past fortnight) is a slight concern.

There is the potential for this to bring out a shock result, and it’s slightly surprising to see HMS Endeavour freely available at odds of 16/1.

This colt has an impeccable pedigree, being a first foal out of five-time Grade 1 winner Lady Eli. He has won both starts since debut, showing a good turn of foot to score at Navan on penultimate outing.

That Navan form has worked out well since, with the third and fourth both winning since, and a recent success at Dundalk suggested that going back up in trip would greatly benefit HMS Endeavour. He appears the choice of Ryan Moore and his yard have won this race twice in the last four years.

CHICHESTER – (3.40 Newmarket, bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap)

The market is struggling to identify a favourite for this contest, but in reality, the three that look likeliest to head the market all look a shade vulnerable.

Astro King is becoming a little frustrating, Magical Morning may find the ground quicker than ideal and Uncle Bryn will find this considerably tougher than a recent Ascot win.

Long Tradition is interesting for all that he clearly lacks experience for a big handicap such as this, and therefore CHICHESTER rates as the more reliable proposition.

This gelding has proven a shrewd purchase at 30,000 guineas, already gaining three wins for his new yard – the latest victory coming by an impressive six and a half-length margin.

He arrives here nine pounds well in under a penalty for that success, and these rattling ground conditions will suit. He’ll feel likes he’s running free here off just 8st 7lbs with top pilot Hollie Doyle on his back and therefore it’s not difficult to see why the money has come for him in the last week.

BINT ELMALEK – (4.15 Newmarket, Blandford Bloodstock Maiden Fillies’ Stakes)

Thanks Monica will undoubtedly be popular here having caught the eye when fourth against the colts on debut, but the market could have overreacted to that and at a bigger price, BINT ELMALEK is preferred.

This filly has an excellent pedigree being a daughter of Kingman out of an unraced half-sister to Group 1 winner Bahri.

She makes her debut for a yard that can ready one first time out, and although stable retainer Jim Crowley seemingly prefers Al Husn, the booking of William Buick suggests that connections still feel that this filly is capable of a big run.

PRISM – (4.50 Newmarket, British Stallion Studs EBF “Jersey Lily” Fillies’ Nursery Handicap)

Plenty of potentially well-handicapped fillies in attendance here, including Mistrix – who held a Group 2 entry at this meeting at one point – and Tinderbox, who finished comfortably ahead of two 90-rated rivals on penultimate start.

Right at the foot of the weights here though, sits PRISM – who looks the one to be on.

Roger Varian’s filly chased home the exceptional Flotus on debut, and her last two runs have strongly suggested that she would benefit from the step up to 7f.

A mark of 74 looks unlikely to prove the ceiling of this filly’s ability.

JUMBY – (5.24 Newmarket, Sue Human Celebration Handicap)

Corvair ran a cracker over course and distance in May and warrants serious respect on that form, whilst Mystery Smiles is also undoubtedly well-handicapped on his early-season form but a habit of falling out of the stalls makes him a risky proposition.

In truth, however, this looks all about JUMBY, who loves it here at Newmarket and has been shaping in recent starts as though stepping up to 7f could unlock some improvement.

He looks a Group horse masquerading as a handicapper and the booking of William Buick (1-1 aboard this colt) suggests that connections mean business.
