Nunthorpe Stakes Runners 2025 - Number Of Entries Likely To Grow As 27 Currently In Line For Sprint Group 1

27 runners remain in the Group 1 Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes next Friday, 22nd August. The race is one of only two top level races over the minimum trip of 5f throughout the season and is open to all age groups, including the two-year-olds.

That number of 21 does not include two for the youngest age group for whom rumours are there will be supplementations at the six-day stage. They are Lady Iman and Spicy Marg, both winners of Group race contests against their own age group over the 5f distance.

Of those confirmed to have entries, there are numerous recent big race standouts. Arizona Blaze has gone from strength to strength this season, finishing a neck second in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, then easily winning a Group 2 at the Curragh back in Ireland. That also came back over 5f, which could well prove to be his distance for the remainder of this season.

Only Winter Power has won this as a three-year-old in the last decade, but Sayidah Dariyan has been improving all campaign for Richard Hughes. She was a 66/1 fourth, just behind Arizona Blaze in the 6f Commonwealth Cup, but won powerfully at this venue in th Group 3 Summer Stakes three weeks later. The drop back to 5f could easily unlock more improvement.

Jm Jungle also recently graduated to the big time when winning the King George Qatar Stakes at Group 2 level at Glorious Goodwood. He had long been a progressive handicapper for JOhn & Sean Quinn and would get his first taste of Group 1 action in this race.

Other notables include perennial Australian contender Asfoora, who has been a bit below her best this season, as well as She’s Quality, runner-up on her last four starts and waiting for a breakthrough. Commonwealth Cup heroine Time For Sandals coped well with the drop to 5f when third at Goodwood and is another big name, while Big Mojo and True Love, the latter a juvenile for Aidan O’Brien, are other runners of note at this stage of proceedings.
