Last year’s winner Inspiral was not among 14 horses declared for the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes, which is the curtain-raiser to Royal Ascot 2024 on Tuesday 18th June. We take a look at the runners for the one-mile showpiece that is one of the feature races of the flat racing extravaganza at the Berkshire racecourse.
Beaten a neck by shock 33/1 winner Triple Time 12 months ago, Inspiral is now more than likely to head for the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes over 1m2f later in the week.

Queen Anne Stakes Preview – Consider This 20/1 Shot in open Group 1
The Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes gets Royal Ascot off to a bang every year. This year’s race has been blown wide open by the absence of star mare Inspiral, and Joe Napier tries to unearth the winner. Triple Time sprung a surprise on us all with his 33/1 victory in 2023. CHARYN (Roger Varian/Silvestre…
Mon 17 Jun 2024Roger Varian’s Charyn is now among the premium runners in the race; he has been hugely progressive this season and having won the Doncaster Mile he continued his progression with a taking win in the bet365 Mile at Sandown. Sent to Newbury for the Lockinge Stakes, the five-year-old ran a stormer to finish second to Audience, who he could do battle with again on Tuesday. Unfancied in the betting, Audience was touted as Inspiral’s pacemaker then, but stormed to victory and is the sole representative of the Gosden charge here.
There’s a strong team from France set to make the trip over and Big Rock showed when winning the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on British Champions Day at Ascot that he can produce the goods on the big stage and he’s another eye-catching runner, while Facteur Cheval was a Group 1 winner at Dubai last time out and is aiming for more notable silverware here.
Docklands was beaten by the undefeated Quddwah in the Listed Paradise Stakes at Ascot last month and is set to line up here; he is one with a Royal Ascot success on his CV having won the Britannia Stakes in 2023.
Third in that Paradise Stakes, Maljoom will be looking to improve on that effort for William Haggas and adds more depth to the event, while last season’s shock 50/1 Buckingham Palace Stakes winner Witch Hunter is another that could take his chance.
