Fact To File could be supplemented for Cheltenham Gold Cup after Irish Gold Cup romp
Willie Mullins has mooted that there’s a potential Fact To File could be supplemented for the Cheltenham Gold Cup after his brilliant victory in the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown on the rescheduled day 1 of the Dublin Racing Festival. Storming to victory in fine style, Fact To File, who was taken out at the last entry stage for the Cheltenham Gold Cup and is only entered in the Ryanair Chase next month, would likely be a market leader for the wide open contest. Owner JP McManus would need to stump up £25.000 to supplement Monday’s champion, but Mullins told Irish Racing, “We had him in the Gold Cup but he was withdrawn, but he could always go in as a supplementary entry. I think that’s what last year’s winner was. We haven’t spoken and we’ll see what happens.” (Irish Racing)
Romeo Coolio drifts in Arkle betting despite Irish Arkle success
Only three runners lined up for the Irish Arkle on Monday, but Romeo Coolio and Kargese served up a thrilling contest in the closing stages, with the former just holding on to claim Grade 1 victory. Kargese set the pace and looked to have Romeo Coolio beaten, but he battled back in the closing stages and pulled a few lengths clear, but then failed to continue with his effort and managed to hold on narrowly. The bookmakers took the decision to ease Romeo Coolio in the Arkle market, while Elliott also said he could potentially look to send the novice to the Ryanair Chase instead, with two miles not his ideal trip. Aswat becomes first female black jockey to win over Jumps in Britain
Aamilah Aswat became the first female black jockey to win a National Hunt race over jumps in Britain on Monday, as she partnered the Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls-trained Guchen to victory at Kempton Park. Riding the 9/1 shot, the 10lbs claimer managed to find enough under pressure to land a one-and-a-quarter length victory on board the six-year-old. Following the race, Aswat said: “He gave me a great feeling all the way round and always felt like he had plenty left. “It just feels amazing to get a winner and so soon as well. I am very thankful to all the connections – the owners and the two trainers. Guchen jumped really well and I was so happy with him.” (At The Races)
