Red-hot Haggas Bids for Across the Cards Wednesday Treble

William Haggas is a trainer in flying form at the moment. Fresh on the back of a 421/1 four-timer at Haydock less than a week ago, the trainer once again hopes for midweek winners with an across-the-card Wednesday treble. Check out our thoughts on his runners below, along with a new customer sign-up at Matchbook, which offers Money Back as a Free Bet up to £30.

SEA GALAXY – (3:10 Yarmouth)

William Haggas’s first runner on Wednesday comes at Yarmouth, where he sends out SEA GALAXY in the familiar silks of Sunderland Holding.

This £110,000 yearling is from a family that the yard knows well, being a full sister to Star Of Wins, a dual winner for the same connections back in the summer of 2020. Her dam, Ninas Terz, is a half-sister to the famous Hong Kong Group 1 winner Pakistan Star.

Sea Galaxy was sent off 15/2 for a Newmarket novice on debut 12 days ago, and although only third there the front two both look potentially well above average types. That initial experience won’t have been lost on Sea Galaxy and Wednesday’s assignment looks a far weaker race on paper, so everything points towards her getting off the mark.

GOLDEN LYRA – (6:15 Kempton)

William Haggas is 5-15 with his runners at Kempton in 2022, and he aims to enhance that record with GOLDEN LYRA, his sole runner on Wednesday’s eight-race card.

This daughter of Lope De Vega is out of an unraced sister to the classy German Group 1 winner Sea The Moon.

She looked like a future star when bolting up in a Newmarket novice on her sole start at 2, pulling 5l clear of a field which included recent Prix de Diane winner Nashwa.

Sent off the 5/4F for a Newbury Listed race on seasonal/3yo debut, Golden Lyra couldn’t quite reel in the more prominently ridden Stay Alert, but she was clear of the remainder and Kempton’s Wednesday contest represents a significant drop in class.

If she brings anywhere near her A-game to proceedings she should have far too much for these rivals.

BADR – (8:05 Bath)

The last of the William Haggas Wednesday trio comes at Bath, where BADR represents the stable in this 1m handicap.

This US-bred son of Kitten’s Joy finished seventh and fourth in two starts for Kevin Ryan last year.

He could only finish sixth in a Chelmsford maiden on his stable debut last month, but he wasn’t beaten far that day and looks a likely improver now switched to handicap company off an opening mark of 72.

Bred to appreciate this step back up to a mile, Stevie Donohoe is booked to do the steering and he’s been in great form in the saddle of late riding four winners from his last ten runners, including a 40/1 shot at Nottingham last week.
