The St Leger Festival arrives this week, with four days of first class action to look forward to, including the Group 1 St Leger Stakes on Saturday.
GG editor Dan Corbally has taken a look at four at bigger prices to keep on side with in his each-way Lucky 15. They include a Royal Ascot winner, a 10-length maiden winning Karl Burke filly, another potential Classic winner for Aidan O’Brien and one that’s gone under the radar for the Gosdens.

DARNATION
3.00 Doncaster (Thursday) – 3/1 Best Price
The May Hill looks like a race to that will chop up considerably with plenty of the entries having ran last week and likely to duck this test. That could make it an altogether easier task for Karl Burke’s filly, DARNATION, who even if the full field of entries lined up would still be strongly fancied. She was a little under-cooked on debut, hanging before the penny dropped and picking up again, but she’s made massive strides since, landing a punt second time up by ten-lengths from a good yardstick before again scoring with more in the tank in the Prestige Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3) at Goodwood. Her sire, Too Darn Hot, was provided with a Group 1 winning filly from the same yard over the weekend and Darnation can take this on her way to bigger tests.
ONE EVENING
3.35 Doncaster (Thursday) – 7/1 Best Price
On to the Park Hill and frustratingly the original fancy, Library, was not declared which may leave it to another Galileo filly, One Evening. John Gosden has enjoyed considerable success in this race in recent years, landing three of the last four renewals. She remains unexposed having had only six lifetime starts and seems to be putting it altogether on her last two starts when finishing second on both occasions. She’s had a couple of trips past the 1m4f, running over 1m5f at Lingfield on her final run in 2022 before starting her season over 1m6f. Neither of those runs set the world alight but she looks to be coming into her own now and this return to the distance can help her get a win in pattern company. Soft ground would pose a question but being out of a Pivotal mare would at least hold a fighting chance of coping should the rain continue.
BIG EVS
2.25 Doncaster (Friday) – 4/1 Best Price
Quite an exciting colt for the Mick Appleby team, winning the Windsor Castle in fine fashion before following up in gritty fashion in the Molecomb. He predictably came unstuck against the older horse in the Nunthorpe, but there was significant confidence behind him that day, going off 5/1 and he’ll enjoy racing against his own age group here. Has form in the book with Kylian and versatile in terms of ground but faster conditions look preferable on what we’ve seen. The Breeders’ Cup has been earmarked as the final goal this term and he should be taking this en route.
CONTINUOUS
3.35 Doncaster (Saturday) – 3/1 Best Price
On to the big one, The Leger! Much like the other Ballydoyle selection, Library, this colt is unproven stamina-wise but created a lasting impression when taking the Great Voltigeur on his last run, taking a big step forward from his King Edward VII Stakes effort when second. The pace at York was quite strong and Ryan Moore was vindicated in riding a few lengths detached when coming home with great purpose to run down Gregory, who this trip should prove more to his liking and doesn’t have th concede a penalty today along with Castle Way. He hasn’t had the most taxing campaign to date and he could take another step forward today with another true pace to aim at.
