There are four meetings spread across the UK on Sunday, and in an attempt to cut down the action in-store, our Racing Editor has identified three statistical eyecatchers running across the cards. Check these out below, along with a new customer sign-up at Matchbook, which offers Money Back as a Free Bet up to £30.
BASIL MARTINI – (1:55 Fairyhouse) Jockey Declan McDonogh 8-20 (40%) when riding 2yos at Fairyhouse
Jockey Declan McDonogh is worth following when riding juveniles at Fairyhouse. In the last five seasons, McDonogh has ridden 8 winners from just 20 runners at a strike rate of an impressive 40%, but even more notable, backing his runners blind would have brought about a level stakes profit of +91.08.
That makes the newcomer BASIL MARTINI of particular interest in Fairyhouse’s opening 6f maiden.
A £160,000 yearling, this filly is the first foal out of Under Offer, a half-sister to Listed winner Bayargal and French Listed-placed 2yos Bulliciosa and Bargouzine.
She makes her debut here and represents the powerful Joseph O’Brien stable, which has landed the last three renewals of this event. If the market vibes are confident here on debut, expect this filly to be bang there at the business end.

GRIVEI – (5:05 Sligo) Trainer Willie Mullins 7-13 (54%) with his bumper runners at Sligo
Willie Mullins rarely makes the 266km trip up to Sligo with his runners, but when he does, they are worth noting. One particular avenue of success that Mullins has enjoyed has been with his bumper runners at Sligo, where he’s had 7 winners from just 13 runners in the last five seasons at a strike rate of 54%.
That makes GRIVEI one to note in Sligo’s concluding 2m2f bumper.
This 5yo is the first foal out of an unraced half-sister to a French Grade 2 chase winner, and he made a promising debut when runner-up in a Fairyhouse bumper on debut back in January.
The third that day, Spanish Present, has gone on to finish ninth in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival whilst the fourth, Peaceful Sunday, is now a 123-rated hurdler. That suggests it was a fair piece of form and Grivei is entitled to have learnt from the experience.
If handling these far quicker conditions he should prove tough to beat.
COPPER FOX – (5:15 Perth) Trainer Donald McCain 20-66 (30%) with his horses at Perth
Donald McCain is enjoying an excellent start to the jumps season and a track that he has tended to operate well at in recent years has been Perth, where McCain is 20-66 (30%) with his runners in the last five seasons.
He makes the journey north with the sole runner on Sunday’s seven-race card in COPPER FOX, who participates in the closing 2m handicap hurdle.
Donald McCain is +29.55 to level stakes with his runners at this track in the last five seasons, and he’ll be hoping that Copper Fox can enhance that on Sunday afternoon. This 5yo has produced progressive form figures since joining this yard, getting off the mark in a Uttoxeter maiden hurdle last month. His mark is left untouched switched to handicap company here, and Theo Gillard claims a handy 3lb, so expect this gelding to be on the premises.
