Tingle Creek Runners 2025 - Jonbon to Face Fierce Opposition in Search of Hat-Trick

A field of six remain in contention for the Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown. The feature race this month prior to Christmas is run over a rapid 2m on the chase course and takes place this Saturday, 6 December.

The headline act is Jonbon, who is seeking a hat-trick in the race after claiming a second success in fine style a year ago. However, Nicky Henderson’s star has now met with defeat on three of his last four starts, twice finishing runner-up at Cheltenham, at which he has a poor record, and also filling second place in the Celebration Chase over the Tingle Creek course and distance at Sandown’s jumps finale in April.

Jonbon’s last two conquerors are both set to reoppose here too. Both of them are greys, with the diminutive Il Etait Temps so impressive in the Celebration Chase and having made a bloodless return at Clonmel last month. Willie Mullins’ charge had missed all of the previous season up until the final day, but could be a serious Champion Chase prospect for this campaign with fitness on his side.

L’Eau du Sud is the other nemesis Jonbon will face once again. Dan Skelton’s grey won the Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices’ Chase over track and trip on this card a year ago, but struggled later in the season, ultimately falling short at both Cheltenham and Aintree. However, in keeping with his yard’s superb form, he put in a superb display in the Grade 2 Shloer Chase, deposing Jonbon comfortably and could end up being the biggest danger to Il Etait Temps.

2022 Tingle Creek winner Edwardstone is well into the veteran stage now at age 11, but could aim for one last hurrah here too, as may the year-younger Boothill. Evan Williams’ Libberty Hunter has fallen or unseated on his last two starts, but could also look to bounce back here.
