Race 1 (1:20pm) SHAN BLUE
Three wins in the last four starts, sealing the treble in his penultimate start at Kempton (3m, soft), when winning the Kauto Star Chase on Boxing Day, 3.75 lengths ahead of The Big Breakway. He followed that with a second behind Sporting John in the Scilly Isles Chase at Sandown (2m 4f, heavy)last month and looks the main threat to Envoi Allen, although it will be a big task to take the spoils here.
Race 2 (1:55pm) CHAMPAGNE PLATINUM
Two wins in nine starts and has placed in the last two contests, with a third in a Class 2 hurdle contest at Newbury (2m 4f, good) in November, before returning to action from a three month break and finishing second to Bushypark by 8.5 lengths at Haydock (3m, soft) last month. This looks a relatively open contest and one that Nicky Henderson’s charge can go close in.
Race 3 (2:30pm) MIN
Comes into the race looking to seal back to back wins in the Ryanair Chase, having beaten Saint Calvados by a neck last year. Has had two runs since, winning the Punchestown Chase (2m 4f, heavy) by a length to Tornado Flyer in December, but was pulled up last time out at Leopardstown, when the 2m 1f pace was a little too quick. Back up to more regular distance here and likely to be in the hunt for the spoils.
Race 4 (3:05pm) PAISLEY PARK
Had a run of seven successive wins ended in last years contest, when a disappointing seventh that day, but has looked back to his old self in two starts this season, placing second on return in a Grade 2 at Newbury, when beaten by Thyme Hill, before bouncing back to reverse that result, with a win in the Long Walk at Ascot in December, when winning by a neck. Goes in as strong favourite with the absence of his rival, although Sire Du Berlais will keep him honest.
Race 5 (3:40pm) FARCLAS
Lightly raced since sealing a treble at Roscommon back in June 2019 and looks to be nearing his best form, with a third at Leopardstown (3m, yielding) in December, before a fourth at the same venue (2m 5f, soft) last month, finishing just 3.5 lengths adrift of Off You Go. Needs to show a little more in this competitive contest, but should find places at very least.
Race 6 (4:15pm) THE GLANCING QUEEN
Has really picked up her form in the last four starts, bagging a victory at Warwick (2m 5f, good to soft) and in her penultimate start, when 11 lengths clear in a novice hurdle at Bangor in January. Placed second amongst Listed company last time out at Exeter, when 7.5 lengths behind Wilde About Oscar and if able to continue the progress, looks set to be among the leading finishers here.
