Welcome to new GG.COM, a cleaner, faster, more accessible and more informative site.
It is not yet fully completed and currently provides links back to some sections of the old site, however, over the coming weeks all these sections will become available on the new site.
Briefly, what are the improvements and why did they need to be made?
GG.COM was 10 years old last year and hadn’t changed much across that period, despite big changes in the Internet and the way in which we all use it. One of the most important issues has been to bring GG up to date with the way in which we now access the Internet. In an age of on-line convenience, we all expect to access the Internet anytime and anywhere and as likely as not from a mobile device, rather than from behind our PCs. However, we don’t believe that the trend of requiring you to ‘download our app’ or ‘go to our mobile site’ makes for a good user experience and is not ultimately what you’ll want from GG.COM, especially as there are now better alternatives. On the new GG.COM, whether you chose to access via a smart phone, a tablet or your PC, you’ll find the same content in the same readable format at the same Internet location, but styled and arranged to suit the device you’re using.
Try it now; as you read this on your PC, iPhone, iPad, Android, whatever, if you are able, navigate to the same address on another sized device and you’ll see what we mean.
You’ll find that the content is (and will be) mostly familiar, but we hope presented in a way that includes many of the requests that our users have made to us over recent years. (Racecard results now include the saddle cloth number for all you placepot fans, for example). We’ve also tried to keep things clean and simple, recognising the constraints of some devices, but new technology should ensure that GG beta is faster and more consistent than our existing site.
This first stage has been to make available most of the major traffic areas of the site; the home page, racecards, results, tips, blogs and will allow us to access both your reactions, and the robustness of the software before we add other functionality like a new forum, competitions, the odds comparison sections and the various user tools. We hope you’ll particularly like the new search facility which will help you quickly and easily find anything on the site that you’re looking for.
We hope you like the new site and if you have any comments, we’d love to hear them.
