Glenglass (1.45 Fairyhouse) 5/2

The first of Kennedy’s quintet, Glenglass made an extremely disappointing hurdles debut, but fair excuses have arisen since.

He won his only point to point start in February 2020, but did not meet a racetrack until November of this season, winning a bumper in gutsy fashion despite not giving Jamie Codd the easiest of rides.

That victory came at Fairyhouse, which perhaps bodes well here. That said, it did not look to be the orientation that caused him to finish down the field at Navan. In the post-race examination, vets at the track found him to have grazed a hind leg while Davy Russell said he was making noises in running.

Kennedy therefore takes the mount for the first time and he should be comfortably over any injury issues that occurred that day. His previous promise is not forgotten and he was a £155,000 purchase for Bective Stud, so hopes may still be high.

Hurricane Georgie (2.20 Fairyhouse) 16/1

This Listed mares’ chase represents a step up in difficulty for Hurricane Georgie whose previous chase starts had all been as a four-year-old.

As a result, she is now receiving nowhere near as many allowances in terms of weight. Where Jack Kennedy would have been able to carry 8lb less on her back, now the pair have to do it on level weights with some more experienced horses.

Nevertheless, Hurricane Georgie was mixing it in good company during the autumn, winning once and only going down narrowly in a Punchestown Grade 3. She also only narrowly failed to give 3lb (effectively 10lb factoring in Gavin Brouder’s 7lb claim) to the now 130-rated Alohamora at Fairyhouse in late November.

She found Riviere D’etel to be a class above at Navan in December, but returns here fresh, which is no bad thing having raced consistently from June to the end of 2021. If having improved for the break and simply maturing slightly, she is in with a chance of an upset.

Millen To One (2.55 Fairyhouse) 14/1

One of two rides not for Gordon Elliott on Sunday for Kennedy, the Francis Flood trained Millen To One goes in this handicap chase.

The eight-year-old is far from a prolific winner, with only one success from 22 rules starts. That was over hurdles, so he is still a maiden over fences, despite placing on three occasions in seven starts.

He may not have stayed three miles when pulled up at Navan most recently, but he made mistakes, as he did on his penultimate start. That has not always been the case and given he has been on the premises off marks higher than this, he could well be in with a chance of breaking his chasing duck here.

His win over hurdles came off this mark of 116 and he has never got the opportunity to race off this low a rating over fences as yet.

Falcon Eight (3.30 Fairyhouse) 11/4

Despite being a superb flat horse, Falcon Eight found that the very best novice hurdlers were beyond him on his debut in December.

That said, the first three home were Journey With Me, Minella Crooner and Kilcruit, all of whom are high class Graded level operators, and Falcon Eight, last season’s Chester Cup winner off top weight, conceded a stone to the runner-up when winning on his second start.

Said second, Rajsalad, won on his next start and is rated 112, so there is a chance that Dermot Weld’s charge could make into a useful hurdler yet. That was over 2m7f, but he should still be very capable over this trip of 2m4f.

He is probably the most talented horse in the race and had learned a bit of hurdling technique on his second start. An improvement in his jumping once more could make him formidable.

The Tide Turns (4.05 Fairyhouse) 4/1

Back with Gordon Elliott, The Tide Turns has shown promise in his brief hurdles career so far, but there has been a slightly regressive look to his form, certainly on his last three starts.

He won on debut at Punchestown, taking care of HMS Seahorse, before finishing a very useful fourth in the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival. That form worked out superbly at Cheltenham, while The Tide Turns took an alternative route.

He was fourth in open company in the Grade 3 Red Mills Trial Hurdle, performing admirably enough, but perhaps the occasion got to him at the Festival, as he was down the field in the Boodles, admittedly going off at the head of the weights.

Once more, he is chanced against older horses here, continuing to receive his age allowances. That definitely makes him dangerous on his best form and if he can settle, he has a chance of upsetting this field.
