Yorkshire Cup Runners & Odds - Kyprios One of 11 Remaining On Road to Ascot

The feature race on the final day of York’s Dante meeting is the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup and 11 runners remain in contention for the 1m6f contest on Friday. Some fascinating names are in the mix as Aidan O’Brien may send staying stalwart Kyprios to the race as he continues on his comeback trail after an injury plagues 2023.

Ballydoyle may also have the next long distance star in the shape of Tower Of London though, with his name also on the list of 11 confirmations. He claimed back-to-back Group race successes in smart style in in the Middle East over the winter and early spring.

Last year’s winner Giavelotto will attempt to emulate Stradivarius by winning this in successive years having chased Tower Of London’s tail on his last two starts, while O’Brien is not the only trainer sending two horses on the opposite ends of the career spectrum: William Haggas has nominated both eight-year-old Hamish, who is on an unbeaten run of five, and four-year-old up-and-comer Naqeeb.

The Gosden team had such success with the aforementioned Stradivarius here over the years and may hope Gregory or Middle Earth could make the first step towards following in his hoofprints after graduating from their Classic campaigns. Al Qareem could also be a name to take seriously for Karl Burke.

Meanwhile the Irish challenge does not solely belong to Aidan O’Brien, as all conquering jumps trainer Willie Mullins has kept former Triumph Hurdle hero Vauban in the race; he started favourite for the 2023 Melbourne Cup. Jessica Harrington’s Yashin makes up the field as another representative of the Emerald Isle.

Yorkshire Cup Odds

With final declarations still to be made, Tower Of London heads the market at a best price of 7/4 as he comes into the race in excellent form. The Irish raiders have a stranglehold over the market as Vauban is next in at 4/1 with Kyprios at 9/2 on his redemption trail.

Al Qareem is the shortest-priced of the British runners on best odds, currently trading at 7/1 with defending champion Giavelotto at 8/1 alongside Gregory and Hamish.
