It’s Day Four of Royal Ascot and the Tote are guaranteeing a HUGE £500,000 in the Placepot for it.
GG Editor Rob Plumbridge is on hand to guide us through his selections in a bid to scoop some of the big prize money on offer.
Leg 1: 2.30pm
Leg 1 Selections: (1) Carla’s Way (6) Jabarra (12) Persian Dreamer
A big field to begin with, and we go with three to give us the best chance of getting through a tricky opener. Carla’s Way goes in straight away as she beat a next time out winner and looks a scopey type open to loads of progression. Jabarra has a real turn of foot, showcased at HQ and can make his presence felt if getting the breaks in a huge field. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Persian Dreamer despite defeat at York and hopefully the race pans out better today.
Leg 2: 3.05pm
Leg 2 Selections: (2) Little Big Bear
Everything points to Little Big Bear in this and a big run is the least we can expect. Everything is in his favour – the track, ground, form and trainer/jockey combo. He has to be a solo entry to allow us room later in the day.
Leg 3: 3.40pm
Leg 3 Selections: (3)Teumessias Fox (16) HMS President
Teumessias Fox did it all so impressively on Guineas Day at Newmarket. He goes up 7lbs but that might be on the lenient side given the level of performance.
HMS President has been in rude form since moving to Alan King’s this season. He has won a 16 runner handicap at HQ and only goes up 3lbs.
Leg 4: 4.20pm
Leg 4 Selections: (7) Tahiyra (4) Queen For You
Tahiyra will be a warm order for this and goes in here as the class act. She’s 3/4 and should well make it 4/5. However, this is a different proposition today and the ground could throw up a surprise – there’s only 2 places up for grabs so we will add Queen For You into the mix who is the least exposed and runs for connections with a good record in this.
Leg 5: 5.00pm
Leg 5 Selections: (9) Coppice (5) Breege
This is another tough puzzle. Coppice is bred to be top class and her opening mark may underestimate her if she can translate her form onto turf having won well on the all weather.
Final selection is Breege who has a squeak on last season’s form and goes well here.
Leg 6: 5.35pm
Leg 6 Selections: (5) King Of Steel (2) Arrest
This should be between King Of Steel and Arrest. I will include them both as there is only 2 spots available in the placepot in this leg. Arrest will need to bounce back from a poor run at Epsom, but the track might have been the issue that day and he still has potential. King Of Steel is rightly favourite for this, he ran a huge race in the Derby and only Auguste Rodin could beat him. The pair were plenty clear of the remainder.
