Daryl Carter – Whitefeathersfall, Coral Kincsem Handicap
Mark Johnston’s WHITEFEATHERSFALL scored in excellent style at Carlisle on the back of a 303-day break putting in a career-best effort taking care of some promising fellow three-year-olds, including Million Thanks, who had been touched off by a head at Pontefract by Bullet Force and narrowly beaten previously by Jimi Hendrix at Haydock. That form looks pretty solid for a race at Carlisle. The step up in distance today has been on the cards for a long while. I remember tipping this horse up at Windsor last year when he was too keen for his own good but stuck on well under hands and heels once headed and shaped as though he had more in the locker, but his jockey was going easy on him. He ran well in a Nursery Handicap at this venue on this card last year from a wide draw in stall 12 when held up at the rear of the field and continuously denied a clear run finishing out his race on the bridle. The winner of that Nursery Handicap was well taken care of by the selection on route to this race today, and although this is stronger, he has certainly been targetted at this race and hopefully, with a more prominant position from stall seven today, he can gain a more prominent position. His debut form at Haydock needs taking with a pinch of salt. Still, he did give the 109-rated Albahr a good run for his money, pulling seven lengths clear of the field, and that was a race that Mark Johnston used on debut for subsequent Group 1 winner Subjectivist. In contrast, three of the trainers four winners of this race, including last year, all made a trip move to win this contest (two stepping up to 1m2f and one down from 1m4f).
Andrew Mount – Lilac Road & Dreamloper, Nassau Stakes
I want to oppose odds-on favourite Nashwa now she takes on older horses, as the three-year-old fillies are a modest bunch this year. I want two of the four-year-olds on my side – LILAC ROAD, whose record over this 1m2f trip on turf reads 2121 (2-4) with both defeats by just half a length – and DREAMLOPER, who reportedly never travelled on the soft going when only sixth at the Curragh last time. That run aside, her record in single-figure line-ups since her racecourse debut stands at 2111 (3-4), with the defeat by a short head to the progressive Lights On. She has won in bigger fields on straight courses but does seem to find trouble on turning tracks when there are plenty of runners.
Joe Napier – Seductive Power, Jaeger-Lecoultre Nursery Handicap
The nursery at 4.10 looks to host a particularly good opportunity for SEDUCTIVE POWER, who is alluring for a yard which has won two of the last five renewals in Richard Hannon’s. The King Power colt was fifth on debut in a race which produced Tuesday’s Vintage Stakes winner Marbaan (third that day), while he was fourth to Group 2 Superlative Stakes winner Isaac Shelby on his second start. Both of those are highly respectable efforts, but he soon got off the mark, winning at the third attempt in cosy fashion from the front. The fact he races prominently should see him to good effect at this track and though this is his first run away from Newbury, that should not hinder him off what looks a lenient m

Joe Eccles – West Wind Blows, Gordon Stakes
I’m keen on the chances of WEST WIND BLOWS in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes. He struggled in the Derby but can be forgiven for that given he was up on the front end throughout in a race where the 1-2-3-4 raced midfield or worse. He showed his true colours at Hamilton last time posting an RPR of 113 in a seven-and-a-half-length demolition, that figure is higher than anything posted by the last ten winners, which is a roll of honour that includes future Group 1 winners Postponed, Defoe and Subjectivist. Connections have snapped James Doyle up for the ride here, and in a field where plenty of the runners have something to prove, he rates one of the more reliable propositions to my eye.
Jordan Arksey– Seductive Power, Jaeger-Lecoultre Nursery Handicap
Trainer Richard Hannon has done particularly well in this nursery contest in seasons gone by, with six winners in the last twenty renewals. The trainer runs two on Thursday afternoon and of the pair, it’s SEDUCTIVE POWER who is taken to come out on top for connections.A son of Kodi Bear, Richard Hannon’s colt ran an eye-catching race in defeat behind his stablemate Dark Thirty on his debut over six furlongs in a competitive maiden at Newbury back in May. Fifth on that occasion, he kept on well inside the closing stages in a race that has worked out extremely well since – the third Marbaan has won his last three starts including the Group 2 Vintage Stakes on Tuesday.Fourth behind future Group 2 Superlative Stakes winner Isaac Shelby on his penultimate start, Richard Hannon’s juvenile made it third time lucky back at the Berkshire venue in June, staying on strongly once more and comfortably accounting for two subsequent winners in the process. Bred to appreciate the step up to seven furlongs on Thursday afternoon, Seductive Power certainly has plenty of boxes ticked here and a bold bid looks assured from Richard Hannon’s improving colt.
Rob Plumbridge – New London, Gordon Stakes
This son of Dubawi from the powerful Godolphin yard has looked like a Group horse for a while now and is a worthy favourite stepping into Group 3 company. He was a worthy winner on the July Course earlier in the month, making light work of some quality handicappers giving weight away to all but one in the field. That 3 length success was just his fourth start and he is well worth a try stepping up in class. It’s hard to see him not running a huge race here. He takes on Hoo Ya Mal, 2nd in the Derby, but possibly flattered there with Westover running into trouble. That form is by no means solid and my pick looks very much the one to beat here.
Tom Aldridge – Royal Scotsman, Richmond Stakes
My best bet is ROYAL SCOTSMAN in the Richmond Stakes. His sole run over C&D was hugely impressive, beating Bluelight Bay by five lengths and Mischief Magic a further length back in third. Bluelight Bay came out and won next time out, and Mischief Magic ran out a comfortable winner here on Tuesday. He could only finish third in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot but that form is also working out nicely, and he looks a solid pick to give jockey Jim Crowley another Goodwood winner. Chateau will give him plenty to think about but Royal Scotsman should be too strong for him and can run out a convincing winner.
