Hereford Racing Tips (Wednesday 18 March 2026)
Seven races take place at Hereford, with Andrew heading to the 2.00pm and 4.30pm races.
2.00 Hereford – Gorcombe Moonshine (0.5pt e/w – 8/1 generally with the firm paying three places, including bet365, Coral and Ladbrokes)
Gorcombe Moonshine has a poor career strike-rate (one win from 32 starts) but he has a win and five in-the-frame efforts to his name from seven completed starts over fences and, with trainer Robert Walford in good form, looks worth chancing on his first start since early June last year. That run – a 16-length sixth at Worcester – was better than it looked as he clocked a fast time and the race has thrown up a host of winners. The nine-year-old is taking on horses who have been running on soft or heavy going all winter, several of whom will be unsuited by today’s drying ground and/or will have had enough for the season. There are only seven runners, but several firms are paying three places.
4.30 Hereford – Castelfort (1pt win – 3/1 bet365, Star Sports, 11/4 generally)
The two-mile trip was too short for Castelfort at Chepstow last time where his four-length third was a respectable effort in the circumstances. Jane Williams’ six-year-old finished over 22 lengths clear of Val Royale, one of today’s rivals and priced at just 9-2, and while two of his three wins have come on heavy going, December’s Newbury fifth in a Class 3 handicap hurdle suggests that genuinely good ground is no issue. His sole previous Class 4 handicap run resulted in victory, and he drops down to that level today.
