13 horses were confirmed for the Irish 2000 Guineas. The first Classic of the Irish flat season takes place at the Curragh on Saturday.
Long odds-on to make amends for his admirable Newmarket Guineas defeat is Gstaad. Aidan O’Brien’s charge won at the Breeders’ Cup to conclude his juvenile campaign. He bumped into a very smart winner in Bow Echo on the Rowley Mile. However, he headlines the field set to take part at the weekend
O’Brien could also run Hawk Mountain as a wildcard in the race. However, bigger dangers come from across the pond. Alparslan missed the English 2000 Guineas after winning the Greenham Stakes at Newbury as a trial. Distant Storm, meanwhile, was third in the 2000 Guineas albeit eight lengths behind Gstaad. Among the remaining home contingent, Newmarket fifth Thesecretadversary may also run in his second Classic.

Irish 1000 Guineas Runners: True Love bids for double
True Love could bid for a memorable 1000 Guineas double. The Newmarket heroine is one of 16 fillies in the Irish equivalent at the five-day stage.
Of most note though is that stablemate Precise is also in the current field. She was a well-beaten favourite in the 1000 Guineas, but may reoppose her near neighbour. She also possesses an entry in the Epsom Oaks should she go up in distance.
Once again, there are plenty of potential dangers from Great Britain. Sukanya won the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury before skipping Newmarket. Her and 1000 Guineas fifth Abashiri represent a stern threat from across the Irish Sea, while Kensington Lane and Pivotal Attack are among the intriguing types for other Irish yards.
