The closing week of September gives the Flat season a genuinely international feel, with a listed race at Cork providing the early-week focal point before Newmarket, Ascot and Redcar stage a high-quality British Saturday.
Newmarket’s Sun Chariot Stakes brings together leading fillies and mares over a mile, Ascot’s Challenge Cup offers one of the autumn’s most competitive seven-furlong handicaps, and Redcar’s Two-Year-Old Trophy puts a large juvenile sprint entry under the spotlight.
The weekend then moves to ParisLongchamp, where the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe meeting combines Europe’s defining middle-distance race with a deep Group-race programme.
Navigation Stakes, Cork — Tuesday 29 September
Cork stages Ireland’s listed Navigation Stakes over 1m 3f on Tuesday, a race restricted to three-year-olds and run on the turf. The current card lists 12 runners, with declared riders and draws already shown. Action carries the highest rating in the field at 124 and has stall 12, while Shaihaan is rated 117 and is partnered by Chris Hayes from stall six.

Diamond Necklace, a three-year-old trained by Aidan O’Brien, heads the ratings on 132 after a 1-1-1-1-2 sequence. Blue Bolt is rated 131 and brings five consecutive wins, while Fallen Angel is rated 128 for Karl Burke. The three-year-old group also includes Precise, rated 126, and True Love, rated 123. The older contingent contains City Of Memphis, Jancis and Red Letter.
With jockey bookings, draws and final declarations not yet populated on the feed, the most useful early guide is the balance between the leading three-year-olds and established older fillies. Challenge Cup, Ascot — Saturday 3 October
