An unusually large field of 16 took to post in a gripping renewal of the 2026 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase. Following on from a thrilling Turners Novices’ Hurdle, punters were treated to another memorable spectacle in the opening chase contest.
All the main players participated, with Kitzbuhel landing the spoils from stablemate Final Demand in a thrilling finish. Salver completed the minor honours with a late charge for third for the Moores.
Harry Cobden provides Kitzbuhel with a thorough staying ride
Wednesday racegoers were in for treat as 16 took to the post in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase. Final Demand had been a strong favourite throughout the season before blotting his copybook at Leopardstown.
His successor Kaid d’Authie was out to uphold the Leopardstown form, while Western Fold aimed to go one better.
Romeo Coolio’s participation added further intrigue. Second on two occasions at the festival, connections pinned their hopes on the three miles breaking his Cheltenham duck.
Henry De Bromhead was doubly represented with a strong hand. Koktail Divin skipped the option of the Jack Richards Handicap, whereas The Big Westerner looked to go one better than her Albert Bartlett second.
The Brits were outnumbered with just three runners, but Wendigo was no back number after his pleasing chase campaign.
Yet few would have looked further down the Willie Mullins pecking order. Punters may be kicking themselves given the third Closutton horse was already a Grade 1 winner.
Kitbuhel had taken a tumble at Sandown last time out, but under an aggressive Harry Cobden ride, led all the way. Despite the strong challenge of a rejuvenated Final Demand, Kitzbuhel was the horse who lasted up the hill, with Salver a fast finishing third to be best of the Brits.
